The first and most important thing to know about this superb auto is that it was designed by the legendary Al Mar. But you could be blindfolded, hold this knife in your hand, feel it, press the blade-firing button, feel your hand actually jerk slightly with the ferocious force of the snap, and know you were gripping an auto extraordinaire.
The short thick blade shoots out with aggressiveness and unbridled malice. The beautiful blade geometry, which is identical on both sides of the blade, assures unusual strength in an auto-firing knife, even measured against the most demanding standards. This knife bears Al Mar's name on the blade, and this knife meets or exceeds Al Mar standards in every way.
It's probably too much to expect an assailant to say to you, "Thank you, sir, for stabbing me with a knife of such quality," but any bad guy with a touch of class would say just that before he sank to his knees. For truly, this is a knife that delivers a quality cut.
The blade steel is 154CM polished to a mirror finish. The handle is crafted of aircraft-grade aluminum alloy and incised on both sides with a diagonal shark gill slit design reminiscient of that on a BMW Z series car. This isn't a linerlock. Just behind the firing button is blade release button. When the button is in the forward position the blade won't fire. Period. When the button is in the reverse position, with a small red dot appearing in the button well to signal that this baby is armed and dangerous, watch out!
To get the thing back into its cage, press the blade-fire release button and manually, gingerly, close the blade back into the handle. Be sure to press the blade lock button forward into the closed position. Remember what the Alien creature did to John Hurt's stomach? This will do that to your workaday jeans or Sunday slacks if you don't keep it under lock and key.
But forget all that nasty stuff, if you can. Hold this knife in your hand and you know your fingers are gripping Rolls-Royce quality. Heck, that's important with any knife. But with an auto, it isn't an option. It's the whole darn thing.
On the other hand, as Ving Rhames said so memorially in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction after an unfortunate sexual encounter with a not very nice man: "I'm going to get medieval on his ass." Al Mar's Corby Tanto was designed with precisely that sentiment in mind.
Sorry, but wire mesh face mask, chain mail gloves, and three-legged stool are extra.
