Hi, my name is Chad. so in a nutshell, I love knives. I am a Police Officer for 23 years. I know, I know, with everything going on, please don't judge me, I swear, I'm not a bad one. I am not arrogant or abuse my power. Believe it or not, My true goal in life was REALLY to help people :)
Anyway, I recently had made a Kratos by James Coogler. Anyone not familiar with the knife, if you google it in you will find one. It's a custom made knife, a karambit. I have carried a karambit on duty all my life for weapon retention, weak side. So I love the knife, although it's a little larger than I expected in my hands. My problem is this: It shipped with the kydex sheath, BUT, the kydex sheath is SO oversized, its larger than my duty holster. It's very oversized as a result of the maker going with the extended kydex and rivets way out on the ends of the holster.
Ideally, I would like to find a master leather worker, who could wetform the leather to shape it to the design of the knife. That way, there could be a belt slot built into the rear of the sheath and it wouldn't take up any space. I cannot seem to find any leather workers who can or will take on the job because of the unusual shape of the knife, not even with me sending the knife to them to build the sheath around. If that's not possible, which I honestly don't know, can a thinner kydex sheath be made, without the rivets? I defer to the experts?

Thanks in advance for any help

We moved your thread to the appropriate spot to find the sheathmaker your looking for.

Best of luck on your search!

Chad, first, thanks for you dedication, service, and apparent temperament.

That's really a pretty large karambit. A photo of the kydex sheath with knife inserted would be helpful also.

Karambit knives have to be literally "spun" into a fitted sheath so having the knife in the shop would be must.

With no promise or commitment on my part, I'm willing to discuss a leather sheath with you. My phone and email are at the bottom of this post in my signature line.

Leatherman, I see you own and operate a leather shop yourself. In your professional opinion, is what i'm asking to have done out of the realm of possibility? I haven't actually contacted anyone to ask, but I have viewed literally dozens of web pages belonging to sheath makers, and I haven't seen but one or two leather workers who actually formed and burnished sheaths to the shape of the knife. Most of what I saw were sheaths for larger combat knives. There were some trult beautiful sheaths, made with multiple leathers, gator hide, etc, but very few made custom for a tactical defense karambit like this. I can only assume that it's much more difficult to form leather to the shape of a blade, especially an unusual shaped, double edged blade, and I am in no way making light of it. Quite the contrary, I am asking because I don't even know if it can be done. Thank anyone in advance for their time.

The way the country is going, I will be very glad to get out. If it's OK with you, I will email you a few pictures of the knife in the sheath as well as the sheath alone, front and back. If you are still interested in speaking with me about it, I will be more than happy to call you, Is that OK?

It is very doable, and I've done quite a few kerambits through the years. Its a little tricky for draw angle and carry angle but when it works its a very nice thing.

Like I said, best of luck!! :D I am bowing out now.
