If you bought from a dealer they should replace it for you. If necessary just contact Benchmade and they will make it right. They have pretty amazing customer service.

This happens with factory knives at times.

Its best to swap it with the dealer you got it from, or send it to Manufacturer before posting about it.
Or sharpen it out.

The past few Benchmades I have handled and bought had uneven edges on them. Especially my 53.. That damned thing barely had any sort of a bevel. My minigrip has a decent chisel edge on it out of the box, both of the 585 I had had very offset bevels. I sent my minigrip back after a horror story with a local sharpener and it came back crazzzzzy sharp with nice even and long bevels.

You can't expect a perfect grind on a mass produced knife at that price point very time! I would have saved the postage and just used it and sharpened it. But that being said..... Did you return it to the dealer or to benchmade?

If you're unhappy with it, contact the store about sending it back. It doesn't look all that bad to me, but it's your knife, so it's your opinion of the grind that counts in the end.

funny we were talking about this today. out of every knife i buy, there is always an imperfection. in most cases we figure the person grinding it is right handed because that side of the blade is always more consistent throughout the grind. The left side always waves a little bit. But yours!!! never had one like that, sharpen or return is what i would do.

Welcome to the world of Benchmade edge bevels. I own two BM's and both have an uneven bevel, one worse than yours. My brother just bought a Benchmade and his is also uneven. You could send the knife back, but it might get sharpened just the same. From what I have seen with my purchases, and every thing I have seen, and read on forum posts just like this, BM doesn't do sharpening very well. You might get a sharp or dull knife, with a even or uneven bevel. My 707 is not even at all, but it did come very sharp. It makes no sense to me that such a well know, and respected company like Benchmade is so inconsistent with there quality control. My 707 also has an off center blade, and a small amount of blade play. I have thought about sending it in, but the centering and blade play are minimal, and there is no telling if it will come back right, I have had poor experiences trying to send different things back to the manufacturers, so I am going to live with it. I still REALLY don't know why I see 10$ China made knives at the hardware store with better looking bevels than many Benchmades. I really don't ever see or read of Kershaws or Spydercos having the sharpening problems of Benchmade. I have owned a few Kershaws and never had any problems with uneven bevels.

This happens with customs too.

It's a production knife, and not really a very expensive one at that... Add to that the fact that benchmade isn't exactly known for their factory edges. It doesn't really surprise me at all to be honest, and certainly doesn't warrant a warranty replacement. Just reprofile the darn thing and be done with it, you're going to have to sharpen it eventually anyway. I guess I just don't understand why people make a big deal out of factory edges. I got a small sebenza 21 yesterday and it came with a beautiful, perfectly even, near mirror polished convex edge and the first thing I did with it was slap it on my wicked edge and put my own edge on it.

I personally sharpen every knife I get out of the box too but I don't want to have to reprofile every knife I get. The edge bevel should be done at least half way decently.

Well, anyone could make a mistake, but it happens far less if from a good custom maker than with a prodution company.
I've bought at least 50 customs, and only had one with a slightly uneven bevel.

Doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me. Just sharpen and use the knife.

On a midtech I recently picked up the edge near the heel of the blade curls up, and this is on a more expensive knife. Edges are generally put on by hand--there is going to be a lot of variance in edges.

Typical benchmade . I like benchmade have many but there quality control needs to step it up.80 % of the benchmades I buy need adjusted and I buy a lot of them . The biggest problem being blade centering.
