Brand New One-off Yoroi Toshi Tanto by Pohan Leu. This is a knife that Pohan Leu made for me as a one-off custom made creation. Steel is A2 tool steel. Blade is chisel ground down to zero edge, i.e. there is no secondary bevel. To call this knife sharp, would be a gross understatement! It will put to shame even the sharpest bushcraft knife! Blade length is 5 3/8", blade width is 1 1/4" and blade thickness is 1/4". This knife is the definition of a sharpened pry bar. The overall length is 10.5".
The type of this tanto is Yoroi Toshi. This means an extra-thick tanto with armor piercing tip. The handle is made of burgundy underwrap cord and black overwrap. The underwrap forms a turk-heads knot to prevent the user's hand from ever slipping onto the extremely sharp edge. In between the two underwrap nad the overwrap there is a menuki with the maker's initials, "PL".
The full tang of the knife extends past the handle and forms a formidable skull crusher / window breaker. The handling of the knife is simply perfect! You can go from saber grip to reverse grip - edge out in a split second!
The entire handle has been treated with West System Epoxy, arguably the best epoxy out there. This is epoxy is a versatile, 2-part, marine-grade epoxy that bonds and coats fiberglass, wood, metal, fabrics and other composite materials to provide superior strength and moisture resistance.
The sheath that comes with this tanto is unique as well: its frame is made of metal. The interior of the sheath is fully lined. The exterior of the sheath is leather covered. On its back there is a belt clip which will accommodate sheath up to 2 1/4" wide. There is a thin scratch on the clip. It is nothing of substance but I just mention it for the sake of accuracy. Three black mate metallic studs at the bottom of the sheath secure its integrity.
This is a true fighter's knife! It will go through anything that comes in its way with ease. It has never been used, or carried before. I have tried to capture its beauty but the photos really don't do it justice.
