All,

As the title says I not just new to knife making but a forum noob as well. To take it a step further this is actually the first time I have ever joined a forum/blog type anything. That being said please forgive me if this is redundant or belongs elsewhere. I looked around the forums a bit but did not see anything geared towards brand new knife makers aside from the thread about trying to sell knives. On to the questions...

So Im 2 blades into my new hobby (stock removal) and finding myself conflicted regarding steel. I'm not really looking to make money in this as it is a hobby but I have had some friends show an interest in a few of my designs. What I am curious about is proper steel selection for an environment where exposure to salt water is likely. I do have a home made gas forge for heat treating but Im don't think stainless steel is really a good option for my skill level and equipment. So Im looking for any advice/recomendations.
