Some more dyed osage orange, buggy wheel iron, and a nice piece of Bruno 84. This is a blade I forged in April after I did a tanto forging demonstration at the Oregon Show. I tried to add a little tanto flavor to this one. This knife has a 10 1/2" blade, 15 1/2" overall, and it weighs 12oz.

Nice! I like the rifle stock look of the handle especialy the butt. It looks sorta concave is it?

Yes it is concave. First time I tried something like that instead of flat. I'll be doing it more. I never noticed the rifle stock look until another person mentioned it to me earlier. I get so rapped in a knife I don't think of anything else. :D

The 2nd and 3rd pics show the differential tempering better than the first...that aside,
That is a gorgeous knife!!
I wonder if some rifle/shotgun affecinado (spelling) who could afford it might go with the knife and have a long gun custom made to go with it matching the wood of your knife.....a thought.

As usual, very nice. Every time I see a Raymond Richard post I curse my dial up because I know I will wait as long as it takes. Thanks for sharing.

Another great knife Ray. I also like that you keep on changing things a up a bit and making little things big. I also love to see someone who enjoys what they do being great at it.

Great knife, Raymond.

For a real Japanese flavor in making knives, quench them in soy sauce. It quenches sort of like light brine. (Just kidding, although it probably would work)

What'd you dye the osage with? just light tung oil or wax for a finish? I usually just buff 100% carnuba into my osage handled knives.

Love the activity in the "hamon"

Will, I used a mixture of leather dyes I had mixed up awhile back. Think it was mostly brown and black. This picture really doesn't show the color as nice as it really is. I probably colored this handle a half dozen times before I got what I think I was after. It has been sealed with Watco Teak Finish. The carnuba wax is a lot easier. I don't like the natural color of the osage or even when it darkens up with age.

Stacy, I hear you can use wasabi to harden with and quench in soy sauce. Thats how they do sushi knives......

Wow Ray, another beauty! I really like that handle too, though I also missed the rifle stock shape until mentioned. Your blade is great too, I like the little upswept spine towards the handle, very cool. For you that's a fairly blunt tip, and it really brings the tanto flavor out. Sweet knife! Thanks for sharing, just keep em coming.
