Hello to all.

I just imported a brandnew RAT 5 to Austria, Europe. I openend the package and there is a blind hole in the Micarta handle where the logo is printed on. Would a RAT 5 leave the factory with such an error?

The serial number of the RAT 5 is 1033.

Has this ever happend to anyone else?

I'll post pictures asap.

Best regards

Max from Austria

I think that you are talking about the fire stick divot. It is there to hold the top of your drill stick when using a bow to make fire.

If this is not an error i must apologise.

But i checked with some pictures on the net an there was no blind hole in the handle at this version of the knife.

Do you know when they started to drill this hole?

Best regards from Austria

Max

That will probably be the bow drill divot. It's for when your starting a fire with a bow so the stick can rest in that divot

Well, the RC-5 is WAY different than the Ontario RAT-5. The RC-5 doesn't even have the name RAT on it. I don't see how such a mix-up could happen. So are you saying you bought an Ontario RAT5 or an RC-5?????????

I wonder why people even call an RC5 a RAT 5? Why would they not confuse a Swamp RAT with an RC product? Seems to be a lot of "mix-ups" in the last week or so. More than what I would consider simply coincidental.

Yes it is.

If possible i'd like to close this threat or better erase it.
Just started the first thread and already i disqualified myself in the worst way possible.

No problems. All is well my friend. Stick around and enjoy the fray that goes on here!

there are no stupid questions.
it was legitimate as you did not understand.
you haven't disqualified anything. thinking the divot is a blind hole (whatever that is) is a relevant mistake, and would be made by anyone who didn't know anything about a bow drill.

you're fine.

you've got a great beast of a knife.

now go cut stuff.

...and keep your fingers outta the way.

Savvy?

The RC5 is a gift for a friend of mine. I'm already a proud owner of a RC4 and an Izula.
They are amazing and therefore i was a little bit steamed when i saw what i thought was an "error". And like always i reacted little to quick.

Best regards. ;)

a blind hole is one that has a bottom that does not go threw the whole material of the peice... my only contact with that term is in the machine shop....

Welcome Bluejumpingchimp,

Don't feel bad, I made a mistake about the sheath on the RC-6 a few days ago, LOL
:).
There is never a dumb question, we are all learning.

Be well.
