Brass Rivets gone green

How is the best way to protect my older sheats with brass rivets? They are turning green. Also this is happening to the brass gards on knives where the lether loops over the hilt.

Yep that happens with brass and leather. The leather can contain traces of tannic acid from tanning and this causes the rivets to corrode green(verdegris). Not much you can do about it if you are in a humid climate, extremely dry areas have less of a problem with it.

Jack,

Polish up the affected brass parts then apply several coats of Rennaisance Wax or Tre-Wax to the brass, let haze over and buff with a soft rag back to shiny. The wax will protect them for awhile, but would recommend doing this about once a month if you want to keep the greenies away.
