Brass tube removal/ DIY Micarta handle replacement thread

Ok...so, I have removed all but 1 tube from my Short Butaniku. Final tube to be removed tonight. Just received this slab of micarta in the mail, very excited to do this project. I have made micarta slabs for other knives from scratch but this micarta was an eye catcher. What do y'all think?Resized_20180514_184154.jpg Resized_20180514_184215.jpg
Rubbed some oil at the top to bring out the colors. I dig it.

I've seen that Pyton snake print on knife...looks good...I won't compare it to Busse "Snakeskin" but still nice. Laying out the pattern is probably easier on that Butaniku than a curved handle to get a nice pattern effect in your grind.

That's gonna look really good Ryan! I just finished up some g10 scales on a short butaniku but I used flared tubes to get them back in... For torx you can pick them up from mcmaster carr (tubes and screws), I have just recently switched to flat head screws that match the 82° countersink in the stock Busse scales and it looks/works perfect.

Thanks for the link to the tubes and screws, I have been wanting to change out handle tubes on a few knives and wasn't sure of the exact size needed.

I was born in Mobile and grew up in the Gulf Shores Orange Beach area. i’ve been in Oregon for 7
years and really miss that warm coast. How about you? I’ve been meaning to ask.

Northwest. Small town called Hillsboro, a.few miles west of Decatur.

Inspirational! Seriously! Did you use your hand held drill, or go the drill press route?
Hand held, all I have. Used it on several torque settings and took my time, used lube on the drill bit to assist. Was actually easier once I gave it a bit of pressure. Drilled 50-60% through then tapped them out with a punch. Only 4 holes in my hand.....lol.

I use a benchtop drill press with a lower speed and my biggest tip, sharp, quality bit. you want to cut not slide a dull edge and create heat.
I enjoy messing with my stuff the same way, no reveals just yet but making progress. My problem is getting to that point where I say- "finished!" I'm making my mistakes as I go and as expected but that's the fun part of the quest, even when it pisses you off :D ~ I can see how this stuff would drive a man to drink LOL!
