Bravo 1 or RAT5

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on another knife, and I think I've narrowed it down to these two. I usually have a bigger knife on my pack (e.g., Busse SFNO or RAT7 or Ranger RD7), but I like to have something on my person just in case or if I've set my pack down.

I have a RAT3 and a RAT7 and like them both, so I imagine I'd like a RAT5 too. But I really like the looks of the BRKT Bravo1, but I'm also concerned about its thickness. I'm not sure at .215" it will cut as well as I'd like for a shorter knife. I do tend to gravitate toward the more indestructible knives (Busses, Rats, RATs, Rangers, etc.), but I'll usually have one of those along too, so it isn't my only consideration for this smaller knife.

Any suggestions or observations would be appreciated.

Ranger RD 4 or 5 would do ya. Can ask Justin to customize just about anything (including blade thickness), and he'll treat you right.

If you have not tried a Barkie, you have too. I thought the same thing about the thickness, but it is scary sharp. The convex grind is amazing, and push cuts news paper with ease.

Best of Luck,
John

I just got a Barkriver Gameskeeper and love it. My next Barkie will be the Bravo1

I have been drooling over the bravo and the sandstorm for a couple weeks now. Never handled one, but they just look soooooo nice.

If you carry a large knive on your pack I'd opt more for something a little smaller. However, if your only concern is how well it will cut at .215" thick, don't! My Bravo-1 is about the sharpest knife I have. I've seen wood split at just the sight of my Bravo!:D

Another vote for the bravo 1 and the sandstorm. Two knives that serve two very different roles.

Don't have the Bravo-1, but I do have a few other Barkie models. You really should add a Bark River to your user collection at this point, the convex edge is wonderful. I'd go for a Bravo.

I've checking out the Bravo one. I think it's a lot of knife for the money. That will be my next fixed blade.

I have both the Bravo-1 and just recently received a RAT-5. I do like the RAT-5, but it's much larger than the Bravo-1. For a compact, stout knife that will cut with surprising efficiency, it'll be hard to beat the Bravo-1. Since you already have the RAT 3 and 7, I would get the Bravo to try something a little different...guarentee it'll surprise you.

The thickness of the Bravo is deceptive at first and I was a little unsure about it too, but the long radius of the convex grind brings it to a surprisingly effective edge...I doubt that you'll be disappointed. A little extra work on a strop and it becomes amazing.

You already have two RATs, so get the Bravo 1. I love mine, and it smelled nice out of the box, like those rubber worms used for fishing.
