Hi guys,
This morning the mailman delivered a bravo-1 in green canvas micarta.:D My first impressions were, man this is thick, I hope it'll slice. It feels alot larger than it is in the hand (I personally like that) and the ergonomics are fantastic. It easily sliced tomatoes, paper, toothpicks very finely and was scary sharp right out of the box. I would say it slices as well as an SAK, no exageration. Of course. its also wicked tough, I batoned with it and dug through a 2x4 with the tip. The only thing I don't like about this knife is the sheath, it rides way to high up making the handle dig into your side if you bend down. When you carry it horizontaly, the handle sticks out alot which would look really wierd if it was covered with a jacket.:D I guess I'll spring for the leather.
I'm not gonna say much else about it or post pics of the abuse, in about a week, Ill do a huge review on it.

Those are all that I took today, folks.

Your kydex looks way nicer than the one I got, they must have made some changes. I agree about the way it rides though, it was almost worthless and didn't secure the blade very well at all. The leather is much, much better and worth the cost.

My Kydex is black and the holes in the sheath are 1.60" apart. The holes in the clip part for horizontal carry are 1.45" apart. I may have to drill a new hole on the other side of the sheath so there are two holes 1.45" apart. Unfortunately this moves the clip a little more to the tip end of the knife so the clip is farther from the balance point. :barf:

It's amazing how well that knife slices, for such a hefty blade. Nice choice.

That kydex does look better than what I got, too. Seems like a nice improvement.

Hey guys, I was just out batoning and I broke like half a milimeter of the tip:(. You can barely see it, but it still sucks being so new and all:(. I'll get a pic up tommorow or later today, I don't know whether to file it out or send it in. Will I lose the warranty if I file it?

Mike says all is covered except badgers I believe. Dont leave your knife out where badgers are and you will be fine;) Filing it wont void the warranty.

Hey 3, glad you got your knife, but sorry about the tip. How'd that happen batonning? Did you hit the tip with the baton, or did the blade not extend past the wood being split?

After Horn Dog's bad experience with the Swamp Rat Hairy Carry, I looked at the tip of the Bravo and thought to myself that it looked awfully fine and that it might be possible to snap that off as well.

BTW, go with the leather sheath - it is awesome and the kydex sucks.

Did they nail you for duty?

The Vic Swiss tool, which model is it? I've been thinking about the 'X'.

I won't use my full 20 questions, this time. :o

I kind of overeacted on the tip thing:o. I was batoning and hit the extreme tip with the baton (maple). It was barely noticable and came out with about 2 minutes of sharpening, you can't really tell it ever broke. I posted on the bark river forum and mike said that I could send it in whenever I want. I guess it was the shock of having a $200 knife for 8 hours before it chipped. I have to decide between leather ond a spec ops survival sheath. I'll probably choose leather but I do like the idea of putting other stuff in the sheath.Yeah they nailed me, $20.44 :grumpy:. The swisstool is the RS model, I was originally going for the X too but I got this for $50 shipped off of the exchange so I grabbed it.:D To tell you the truth I don't miss the file at all, never needed it but I use the serrated hawkbill all the time makes a good gutting blade too.

Go for the JRE sheath man. Its awesome and fits like a glove. You can always piggyback a pouch on the front.

Do you have a picture of the spec ops sheath and is it sized for the Bravo?
I need another sheath if I get another Bravo. :o

Hey 3,
Thanks for the link. I think I'll stick with the leather one.

You did a nice job fixing up the tip. Still nice to know Mike would replace it though.

The Bravo-1 is an awesome knife, the convex is sweet.

Here it is next to a DMCG.

At the end of the day, I ended up with the DMCG, because the price was better and I know I can beat the crap out of it. Too bad you broke the tip, but Mike is awesome and will take care of you. I'm excited for the Gunny and Bravo-2.

congrats.. the barvo-1 is an awesome knife.. i just got one a few weeks ago for my b-day... that thing was crazy sharp out of the box... i need to take some pics soon...

Wolves, the tip really doesn't look that bad, Since most fully convexed knives don't have such a pronounced tip anyways.

I used it alot outside and in the kitchen today, it's starting to get a golden brown patina and is kind of rainbow colored towards the end. I don't know whether to let it patina fully or perserve the newness for a couple more weeks.

3wolves, i personally prefer to just let it do what it does.

plus, with a convex, if you sharpen the whole bevel then it will all go away anyways. if you just do towards the edge of the knife then you will have a fair amount of patina on it left.
