Bravo 1

I could'nt of put it better myself. A mousepad and a piece of sandpaper don't fit that well in my pocket. My Eze-Lap diamond rod however does.
If you wear a leather belt, then you have a ready strop, no? And all you'd need is a small scrap of jeweler's rouge or other fine abrasive compound and you're good to go. What could be simpler?

Yes, I have been looking at other Bark River knives lately. It's like the scales were removed from my eyes and I can finally see quality blades:). I will eventually buy a Fallkniven S-1 or A-1, but Grampa is right, I'm allready looking to get another Bark River and the one I ordered hasn't even got here yet! I can't stop buying knives.

On sharpening convex knives, Barkies and Falknivens in particular:

If you sharpen freehand, you are putting a convex edge on whatever you sharpen.

If your Barkie or Falkniven is already sharp, all you need to do is strop it to keep the edge razor sharp. No stones, etc, in the wilderness. Just some cardboard or leather and some compound.

You only need the sandpaper, etc, if you let the blade get towards dull.

Heck, you can strop it on your pants leg, for that matter. It just isn't a big deal!

I like to carry a small notepad with me everywhere. On the inside of the cardboard covers , I glue a piece of 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper from Auto Zone to use as a sharpener if one of my knives get really dull.

Inside the other cardboard cover , I wiped on some black Bark River compound to use for touch up.

To finish up , I use the glossy outside of the cover to polish the edge a bit.

Here's one that I just made up:

Give it a try. Works real well & you now also have something to take notes on.

Very nice, Clff! I like your creativity!

cant the same thing be done with a pocket stone ?
i wonder why is fallkniven selling those stones, even to glue them on the f1 sheath ...
they dont sell any strops or any compounds...and their instructions seem to me like for a V type edge.
if i got it right, sharpening convex blades is done by gently moving from 10 degrees to 15 20 degrees while draging the blade on the stone or strop...following direction of the spine, so is basicaly the same thing like in V edges, except you dont keep an angle, you keep changing it, as in a curve, and you drag the spine not the edge, over the stone

Well, there you go, looks like a great field sharpening solution. I just picked up a Bravo 1, so I'll give this a try.

I'm very interested in both of these knives and appreciate this thread :)

The blade on my Sandstorm is ~1" wide. Another favorite of mine is the CS SRK - it is ~1.25" wide... Anyone know how much wider the Bravo 1 is? What about the S1 - is it wider or more narrow then either of these? Also, how long is the Bravo1's blade exactly?
James: The blade on my B1 is 1.127" wide at its widest point:

On my S1 the blade is 1.130" wide at its widest point:

The blade on the S1 gets a little wider just before the clip part of the blade than it is nearer the handle.

I have several Bark River knives and love them. I'm seriously considering the Bravo-1. Does anyone have a photo of it next to something like a Buck Vanguard?

I purchased the Bark River leather sheath with my Bravo 1, it was an excellent investment and beats the hell out of the kydex sheath. I carried it in the Maine woods this summer and it performed flawlessly.

Just ordered one in Black Micarta. Just couldn't take it anymore. It will be a nice companion to my F1.
