Breaking in new girllfriends to your knife passion

I love it Colorado Dave! :D :D Great points to all. Having never been married, this has been an issue. I only have about 4 people that actually know about all the knives I own and even they can't remember them all. I do handle it as a matter of fact, but I usually only have a few knives at a time exposed. I try to take my collection photos when the gf is gone. It's not that I am afraid to tell them about how many I have or how much they cost, I feel it isn't really any of their business as I don't ask them how much they spend on manacures or haircuts neither of which can be resold.:p I did have one girlfriend that horded money like she was going to live for 200 years and never could understand the money I spent on any hobby I had. She didn't do much like dive, fish, hunt...a real bore. :barf: They come in all shapes and moods.

At any rate, I keep most of my knife stories to myself. If something exciting happens or I get a really cool knife I will not be able to keep it to myself. Like it was said, it is just another hobby to me, like scuba diving, dive trips, reef tanks, computers, guns, etc. That is just who I am...if they don't like it...see ya later. Next!

i thought girls took it ruff when they saw my knife collection. wish i had a camera when my GF saw my gun collection, or heard me ordering ammo for the summers classes i was taking at my favorite gun school.

My wife has more knives than I do. She carries a folder a Blackwood CC knife and a push dagger. She has a inova with a TID on it and a Kubaton that she Kopoized along with a minimag and a g2 surefire. I am a happy man but the safe is full and I have started filling toolboxes. Three well two and a half so far. Buying two of everything can get quite expensive so be carefull what you wish for. I just picked up a REKAT Sifu with the Blade Forums logo on it and I do believe it is already in her possesion.

My present and past G/F's all think I'm a nutbar whem they find out about my "hobbies"(knives, guns, skulls, crime collectibles).Maybe they are right?.Well take me as I am or not at all.Never give-up what you like..............NEVER.

Oopps LOL, Yeah, no matter how much I get her into knives, I will see to it that she never joins here :D

One of the first gifts I got for my wife when we first started dating was an SAK. Gift - wise, it was definitely not a hit. After 17 years of marriage, she just humors me when it comes to knives, flashlights, firearms and the like. She doesn't understand my passion for this stuff, but puts up with it because she knows it's part and parcel of the guy she married.

my gf is partly understanding-sometimes was even condecending about it till one of her girlfriends-a realy beautifull one - totally understood my fascination with knives and drilled me with questions for about an hour. the ways girls work

matthias ;)

As a former girlfriend (now wife) of a knife nut I had to add my two cents. I wasn't as into the tactical folders he collected when we first met, but I went to the knife shows anyway and fell in love with the hobby. Knife makers and knife people in general are great people. Now I collect old Sheffield folders and straight razors. You guys have been pretty fair with we fairer sex until now, but let me tell you... you should hear the comments I get FROMknife guys about Str8 razors. I've heard one too many Lorenna Bobbit jokes. My husband and I are at the point where we really like the same stuff. This year for Christmas we made Jim Parker a happy man, but he must have been chuckling to himself or thinking we were crazy when we bought each other the IDENTICAL knives and display cases. There were some laughs at our house...and yes we kept them all. Our kids are not so fond...we made the Blade Show our family vacation last year.:)

Freud would have a field day with this one.

Boy you aren't kidding! Sigmund or Anna could take it apart psycho-dynamically from different angles....:)

Damn! Why won't girls talk to me

Honestly, I don't know how you get her to be your "girlfriend" before she finds out about your knives. I figure its kind of hard to NOT notice mine. But I pretty much carry them in plain sight, and if I get bored while I'm talking to you don't be surprised if I start flicking one or inspecting the edge :D
I also make knives, so if they make it to my house its more than likely they'll see peices and parts laying somewhere.

I view it as a kind of test. Just like my rusty old pickup truck. If she won't ride in it, she's not worth my time.

Well I'm not sure how you'd manage it, but I'd suggest letting them see your FOAL FIRST. At least in certain necks of certain woods, that is bound to be a winner.

Of course if they're from NYC or the like and think the foal is some kind of appealing, unusually large dog or something, then you might have to buy a new truck and put a Tiffany's sign on the doors.
