Breaking in the new BK7...Froggy Style!

Never had frogs legs before, but squirrels were scarce since the trees are so high. Broke out the air rifle (cheating, I know) and popped 6 frogs. I've never cleaned frogs but I know how. The Mora and the Leatherman blade werent too effective on frog bones. Enter the BK7. Frog bones? Bitch, please! I'm a Becker!

Cut, skinned and in the pan. What now? Broke out my MSR pot with my dual use seasoning kit and threw some olive oil, organic garlic, a dash of season salt, and a small squirt of liquid Swanson chicken bouillon. Not bad. Tastes like 50/50 fish and chicken.

Another survival meal made possible by Becker Knives....

Dress them in a pair of cornmeal pants... I love how they do a little dance in the pan.

Never had frog before. I'm sure in a survival situation it would taste like filet mignon.

Looks tasty. Haven't tried frogs legs myself, but I would in a heartbeat. Would you consider it a survival meal only, or was it good enough that it would be something you'd make for dinner sometime?

Frog legs are not bad, Alot of people love them. I don't care what anyone says though they do not taste like chicken, They taste like frog.

Mighty good eating right there. (Shhhhh.....don't tell anybody else you shot those. It's a huge fine in Ohio.)

Those are some good eatin'. Have had them a few times.

I shot NEXT to them to stun them then launched my gig through the air like a Greek god. Besides, we put the frogs in that private pond on private land in the first place, so they can suck it.

That's one yummy looking camping dish! It's been years since I've eaten frog, but those suckers look tasty..especially with that seasoning mix you've got there.

That okay Tanner. When they drag you to jail wearing a Greek god outfit and frog legs on your breath, remember to tell the cops to suck it.

:D

Very cool, love this post. I've never tried frog. The air gun is in the closet and 16 by the chair. Time to pop some!

Looks like you had a good time testing out the 7 and some new food. I think you are spot on on the flavor. I think people think it tastes more like chicken when it is fried, which is the most common way it's prepared down here. For a everyday meal it is a lot of work for not much meat.

I got a couple of questions about your cooking pots/pans. Does that pan nest on top or in your MSI? and where did you get all the little plastic bottles for oil and spice and such?

Thanks for the action shots. That 7 is looking good.

What kinda stove set up are you cookin on in the pic tanner?

It's just a folding flatop on you can put a sterno can in it. It belongs to my friend. I have a Canteenshop Grilltop Stove that nests to my canteen cup. I have some other stuff, but thats the most I usually use.

I never use the MSR Seagull 1.1l (locking top, SS) pot to cook in. It's too nice. I could and would if a REAL need arose. It holds my seasonings kit. The videos below explains it. Mine varies in that I also have UMF 35+ Manuka Honey, Sea Salt, and Seasoning Salt. The pot also has my homemade fire starter discs, a camp size scrubber sponge, a DJeep lighter, and some of those liquid Swansons Chicken boullion packets. But the organic stuff: Sage, Cayenne, Cinnamon, and Garlic are also dual-use medicinal, like the honey. One of Dave C's rules I happen to agree strongly with, is if it is something you carry in your pack, it MUST have more than one use.

The bottles are small Nalgene travel bottles, but film cannisters work too.

Spice kit at 5:30...
