Breaking in the new BK7...Froggy Style!

That is pretty cool... .never tried frog before but everyone who has says it's good. I know what you mean with the bones too... I rolled the edge on my Mora pretty good cutting on/around Pheasant bones.

"Frog bones? Bitch, please! I'm a Becker!"

Hahaha.....Sigworthy? I say yes.

Is that a reference to cane toads?

I assume everything in Australia except Elle McPherson is poisonous. Just to be safe :D haha Seriously everyone should try frog and gator at least once.

Looks like beautiful country though. Now I have to google cane toads....

I missed it earlier, but a few people asked about my cookset. It's a simple pan/pot set I got at Target in the camping section. Stays in my trunk. Also keep a large pot (from the camping aisle at Walmart) in the trunk, but it's mostly for bathing. (Heat up water, use washcloth and no-rinse soap like they use in the hospital...so you can wash the sweat off before getting in your hammock at night) If I was just packing in, I'd have to use the MSR pot, canteen cup, or 1L bottle nesting cup. Also been known to keep some heavy duty aluminum foil in my kit. Not only can you cook on it, but it excels as a base for starting fires. Separates your wood from the damp ground, and reflects the heat from the fire upwards into the wood. I think I picked that up from a BK2 video Adam from Equip2Endure did. Works great.

I would classify frog legs as a survival meal. It's a lot of work for little meat. Unless someone has a better way, you need two leatherman tools...one to grab the bone, one to grab the skin and pull off. Fastest way. Problem is I only caryy one Leatherman tool. The other was my friends.

Admittedly, wild game aquisition is not a strong skill of mine. Not a hunter. So I am forcing myself to get what I can everytime I camp or practice bushcraft to get used to skinning animals and pulling guts out. This trip was the first time I had any real success. I've got several of Dave C's small game processing videos downloaded on my phone for reference. Just got to get the little bastards.

... I think people think it tastes more like chicken when it is fried, which is the most common way it's prepared down here. For a everyday meal it is a lot of work for not much meat.

I've always had them fried like chicken here in Michigan. And it makes it taste chickeny (chickenish? chickenese? chicky?).

For the sake of survival, does anyone know of any reason why they couldn't be eaten raw in a flameless pinch?

That is an awesome meal and perfectly acceptable by my Louisiana standards! We go froggin' about 3-4 times a year. Its not uncommon to come back with 100 frogs or so. Next time you get a batch, use your favorite buffalo wing recipe. Goes great with frog legs.

I agree with Skystorm...frogs do not taste like chicken. They kind of sort of look like chicken...but the taste and texture is different. Its a good flavor and a really lean meat however. Frogs don't have much fat in their legs. Great protein for survival. Great food otherwise.

You should cook them on a stick next time..a little salt and pepper...if you wanna carry the extra ingredient BBQ sauce, it makes good stuff.
