Kakadu Walkabouts or Cargo Pants-super durable, pliable canvas that's double or triple stitched. They're obviously more Western style but for utility cargo pants they can't be beat. A little heavier than summer BDU's or the cotton vietnam style paratrooper pants, but definately more durable and just as breathable.
BDU type, or regulation BDU? If you're just looking for something similar try
Carhartt. They're heavy duty, comfortable to hike in and they come in all different colors and weights.
These are the models I use but there are many options.
I'm wearing Rothco poly/cotton shorts right now and they're pretty good for the price. I like 5.11 Tactical's TacLites too: I have four pairs and I wear them almost every day.
I'd go for the poly/cotton blend BDUs. Better than straight cotton in about every way, from what I recall. Been meaning to get a new pair for awhile now, and wear the shorts version a lot this time of year.
They'll fade and eventually tear up since thin ripstop isn't poke proof, but they'll be a lot more comfortable than most materials. Reasonably durable, light, breathable and dry quickly.
Canvas isn't usually something I want in hot weather, but I wear those lighter weight Carharrt work dungarees NorCal linked to for clearing brush, briars, and stuff, and used multiple pairs as work pants for several years.
edit: I did a google search for details on the different materials and blends for ripstop BDUs, and found what I was looking for at the same site Stormstaff linked to above: http://www.bdu.com/fabric-guide.html
