The tubing is a clear Vinyl that is flexable but stiff enough to suspend the filters. It can't be too flexable or the filters will not counter ballance the mouthpiece.
Also by being clear tubing it gives you a visual check on the filters. If either filter is not working you will see dust in that tube. (This should never happen but)

to change to the other filters other than particulate dust should be no problem, they should interchange if bought from the same company given a part number to interchange with.BY RON
I think there is a market for this type of design that will do solvent etc
if the filters are working properly there should not be an issue with the inside of the tubes braking down. at least for what we as knife makers get into. for painters and such that could be a different story..for the out side of the tubes..JMO
