Hi all,

Ben and I have been talking about doing a collaboration for awhile and it's finally happening! We will be posting pictures throughout the build showing the process. I will be making the blade and damascus guard, and Ben is going to make the collar and handle. I'll let him fill you in on the handle details. Here is the drawing we came up with for the project.

The blade is going to be 9" long and I'll be using old stock 1" round W-2 steel. I've only had a chance to work with this steel a few times, should be fun.

I'm really looking forward to this project, stay tuned and hope you all enjoy.

Really looking forward to it. I have a really fine piece of stabilized northern black walnut for the handle. It should checker nicely.

Looking awesome.
It's the year of Ben Collabs.

This will be cool. Following along.

I'm sure both Bens will do a great job. I'll be thinking of both Bens as 'Ben Squared' for this project. :)

Definitely in! Going to be watching this one closely.

Thumbup squared.

I'll probably have it at BLADE, finished or not...may have to bring my checkering files along so I can work on it on my honeymoon;)

Finally getting some pictures posted on this project.

Once the blade has been profiled and the scale removed I surface grind the Ricasso.

36 grit at high speed makes roughing in the bevels a quick job.

Testing the edge on things like 2x4's, rope, brass rod, or whatever looks like it needs to be cut up

Finish ground, sharpened, and ready for hand sanding. I ended up having to re-heat treat which dropped the tip slightly and making it a little more pointy. Not a bad thing IMO.

Thats all for tonight. I'll be back with more pics as soon as I can.
