Thank you Mark and Tad! Here are some more pics from the project.
Welding a handle on the stack of steel we are going to use for the fittings.
Given'er the gas and waiting for the billet to come up to temp.
The billet inside the forge
Drawing the billet out on the LG #50
The billet was twisted after reaching the desired number of layers. Sorry I didn't get any pics of the twisting.
The Damascus is done, now back to the blade. Here it is sitting on my fancy sanding fixture hand sanded to a dirty finish.
Getting the shoulders filed in for the guard fit up.
A chunk of the Damascus for the guard, surface ground, and the slot layed out ready for drilling.
The guard almost seated on the shoulders.
Fits like a glove!
It's beginning to take shape.
Continuing to shape the guard with the small wheel. In shaping the guard I left a little extra meat so Ben can fit the collar.
Etched my name on the spine.
And a quick peak at the Hamon.
I sent the blade, guard, and a piece of damascus for the collar to Ben. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he does and to see final product! Thank you for following along.
