About two weeks ago, after having Bryan Breeden and his knives recommended to me in a thread here, I got together with him through email, and after a bit of conversation about what I wanted, and trading a couple sketches, settled on a design. I was impressed both by his willingness to work with me, and the price he quoted me. He did say there would be about a month's wait, but that wasn't a big deal for me, so long as I got it before my vacation to Florida in mid-October. He said that should be no problem.

Monday I got an email saying he'd be starting on my knife Tuesday! Today at lunchtime I got another email, with a pic of the finished piece and its sheath! It's absolutely gorgeous, IMO, and I can't wait to get it in my hands and do some serious cutting. I was going to wait until I got it to post, but I just couldn't hold out, so here it is.

Specs:
Blade length: 4.5"
Blade width: 1 1/8"
Blade thickness: 1/8"
Steel: O1
Handle scales: Tan linen Micarta
Overall: 9 1/4"

I'm extremely impressed at how close it is to my sketch, and my hands are itching to wrap around the contoured tan linen Micarta handle. :D

Expect a full review sometime next week. Oh, and I'm calling it the Blackwood Bushcrafter.

Congrats, that looks super nice. Hope to see some in the field pics and more details on the contoured handle:thumbup:

Looks like a great knife. Bryan is a joy to work with and does incredible work. Post some action pictures when you get the knife.

I really like this description of the knife that you posted on another thread comparing the design of your knife to the Bravo-1
I wound up ordering a custom from Bryan Breeden, (Sicily02 here) with a handle as close to that of the Bravo 1 as possible, and a thinner (1/8") and slightly narrower blade. It is finished, and should be getting here next week. I think it's going to be awesome. He works in O1, which is not too far removed from A2 in performance at all.

Hey Kip. Thats sweet. I like that design. I'd mineral oil that handle, but thats just personal user preference.

That breeden stump is getting as famous as the stomper stump :)
I like the looks of your knife too. Nice clean design. You will love that blade in .125" !!!

Not to distract from your thread (and I posted it last night to another thread)- but don't let anyone tell you it is too thin to chop..

Thanks everybody! I'll definitely be posting plenty of action shots once I get her and put her through the paces. I figure I'll spend an afternoon practicing (developing) my nonexistent trap-building skills and perfecting my fire-building.

Thanks Andy! Mineral oil? I'm not familiar with that process. What benefits will it have on the Micarta?

Haha, yup, I can't wait to slice a tomato and make a PB&J—best way to break a blade in, that.

Nice work on that tree! Not distracting from my thread at all, no worries. That tree isn't much smaller than some I've taken down with my RD7! How many hits did that take?

congrats man.. that is a sweet looking design you got going there.. i like it.. i'm sure you'll love it.. bryan makes some hard working knives...

Thats a great looking blade bro, and knowing Brians thin edge, it will be a great cutter!

That's a very nice looking knife, I think I handled the blank at Bryan's shop. Seemed like a very nice design, it looks very good with the contoured handle. You're going to love the 1/8" steel, cuts great and is very light.

You know, it's been interesting seeing recent threads with Bryan's knives in them and realizing that I saw or handled those knives. There were a bunch of blanks and knives in various states of completion sitting around his shop. It's really cool to see the knives at completion and hear what people have to say about them.

Thanks Mike and Tony.

Sweet! Aye, I've been needing a good quality thin-bladed knife of this size for awhile.

OOOOOOH! I want one too!
I REALLY like that!

:D Glad you like it, Jeff. I'm sure if you drop Bryan a line and tell him you want a Blackwood Bushcrafter, he'll hook you up. ;)
