Breeden survival kit that M asked about

That's a good idea, hadn't thought of that. Yeah, usually i just want to see if i can get something to take a spark and get a little flame going. I'll do that next time .

It should indeed, it's a lot thinner than my other fixed blades. Looks to be a great slicer in my limited experience with it so far. Now I want to go home and walk around the neighborhood to pick up stuff to practice with... :D

That's what I do. Lately I walk to the store more often...easier to spot things while walking than by driving....and when I see things I think will work I grab some and throw it in a cargo pocket if I don't have my bag on me.

Urban environments and sheeple are the main reasons I am switching to a smaller knife for EDC use. I spend a lot more time in urban environments now than I once did. What is the length and thickness on that Gunny? After so long of carrying thicker blades I have a fear of going too thin. I want my knife to be smaller but not really weaker... relatively speaking

The Gunny is around 3.75" inches in blade I think, and around 5/32" (0.154") thick. It is the thinnest I have so far aside from Mora's (everything else is 3/16" or above). I think it would make an excellent EDC knife, you can see the size when sheathed on the belt in my Point Reyes thread. I would use it for EDC myself if I could do so without drawing too much attention here (FBs need to be carried clearly in the open here in CA). I'll have to stick to folders for now:thumbdn:.

I don't think you'd find it too thin. Check out TwinBlade's review on the Gunny a while back, I think he did a good job demonstrating the capabilities of the Gunny. Once I get out to use mine more, I'll post a review.

(ETA: I don't find it too thin, and my first-love knife was the Bravo-1 at almost 1/4" thick, if that helps at all).

Here's my Deployment Survival Kit:

Now, before you offer too many suggestions (which I still encourage), understand that this is a very compact 48-72 hour E&E kit.

It will be integrated with my EDC including my IOTV which will have a full sized IFAK and other items which I will list.

The sole purpose of this kit is to keep me functioning until rescue…even the compact fishing kit is a far stretch as I don’t expect to E&E more than 48-72 hours before I’m either picked up or captured.

Given the AO, water is my primary concern. I do have a Camelback and water bottles/canteens in my assault pack, but this compact E&E kit will at least give me the possibility to carry and purify 6 quarts of water…again, about 2-3 days.

My EDC consists of:

M9/M4
Rigger’s Belt with:
Mad Dog PATAK fixed blade (soon to be a Dumpster Mutt)
Leatherman Multi-tool
Novatac 120 Mil LED light
Small PSK/IFAK (nothing too big, fits in the lower left leg pocket)
Extra two-mag M9 pouch
Marathon GSAR watch
Cammenga Tritium wrist compass
ACH or Boonie hat (with two large brass safety pins)
ID Card/cash holder
Oakley Half-Jacket Ballistic glasses – polarized lenses
Gloves (SWMS/Camelback – Vent Gloves)
Emerson CQC-8 folder
Spyderco Military folder
100mph/duct tape
ID Tags
2x550-cord – 6 foot/braided
Lighter
Chapstick (Burt’s Bees – combat tested and approved)
Extra, Clear Oakley Half-Jacket lenses
Small PSK Kit
In the Shirt:
2xMechanical Pencils
Fisher Pen, black
Grease Pen, black
Gum
Small Notebook
Casualty feeder card
IR Flag

IOTV (with plates):
Camelback 3-Liter
M9 Magazines (3)
M4 Magazines (6)
Map (area dependent)
Lensatic Tritium Compass
Emergency Strobe
Seat Belt Cutter
SAK – Outrider (mini fire steel/Sliver Grippers)
Tactical LED (Gladius with LED upgrade)
Compact weapons cleaning kit
Sun Screen (small tin)
Hand Sanitizer
Compact binoculars
Small notebook
Mechanical Pencils
Pens
Grease pens
Lens cleaner
550 cord (about 30 feet)
IFAK (small boo-boo one)
Gloves
Carabiners
Aqua Mira personal water filter with 1qt Platypus bottle
Cravat
Recon Warp

Well given all the crap above when outside the wire, I was trying to get a nice compact PSK together and assembled this:

Built around the ICE Tactical, Belt Mounted IFAK pouch (which is removable if needed): http://www.icetactical.com/pouch-ifak-detach.html

Here it is with a SAK Outrider for size comparison:

WOW you guys this thread just keeps getting better and better.
I just love reading it all LOL.

Rocks 6 I think you have it covered pretty dang well with your kit and the items you listed. I really like that little ice pouch you have too.
I think a Warthorn knife would be a good addition to ;)
If not the Warthorn then the next tactical knife we are working for sure :D
I think Mistwalker will agree with that too LOL

Excellent looking kit Rock6, really emphasizes what Bryan said about different kits for different enviornments/situations.

When do you deploy by the way?

Next week. It's been a very long and drawn out process as we split the deployment of the Battalion and I'm mopping up the rear:D

Bryan, keep us updated on the next version...thanks again!

Good looking kits ROCK6, I like that last one a lot, very comprehensive kit and I think most well thought out small kit I've seen. Just a thought, Bryan makes a fixed blade about the size of that folder when it's open at probably close to the same weight, no scales.

Yeah...that one is in my backpacking kit:o I do agree that a small fixed blade is really a better option, I just need to get a small kydex slip-sheath as the duct tape is really only good when it's stored in a tin. My only issue is having a bad fall...just need a more secure sheath; it's on my list of things to do:D

Ah, in that case, be safe , hope to see you drop in and updatin from time to time.

That is a nice kit Bryan. Thanks for taking the time to describe all the contents. You have some extremely well thought out stuff there.

I agree...I always like his kit posts. Bryan is the kind of friend you want around when you get lost or some other crisis or emergency occurs:D Now if I can just find a Bryan-PSK Pouch that I can squeeze him in??? :D

WOW thanks again for them comements guys LOL. That makes me blush LOL. I really aint anything special. There are others out there who have really had to survive and with a lot less than I carry now. ( what I do is practice :D being a cast:eek: away at times LOL. When I get a chance to chat with some of those that have done it for real that is just such a great expereince for me to listen and ask ?s about how they did this or that. And Why they did this or that LOL.

I had a lady from church one time ask me about some of the edible plants that I know and if I would show her some edible ones here in town. Some others in church heard this lady ask me about the edible plants that I know and so they asked if they could come along to. I said sure, any how we did the plant tour guide thing and with in a block and a half there were 43 plants that I pointed out as edible in one way or another. Well one lady says boy if i get lost I want you to be with me. You know I am thinking to myself lets not get lost LOL in the first place, but I knew what she ment.

You know this learning bush craft and survival skills, woodcraft or what ever you want to call it. Plain out just take time and practice to learn it. So that you feel confident to do it. making shelters and getting your fires started in many different climates and stuff like that is way easyer I think than learning the plants that takes years to do. Or I should say it has for me LOL and there are still so many more to learn.

You know one of the keys in learning these skills is finding what works for you.
And to find that out you just have to get out and try it. Practice is the key word here LOL.

Like I said thanks for the comments on my kit that I made up and carry and thanks again for the very kind comments about me. I learn from this forum everyday one way or another and I give you guys the Big double :thumbup: for posting and chatting with me on this forum and in this thread itself.

Finally noticed this post and everything looks good.

one of the first things I noticed was some old TIG welding gloves, I like'm. if your in a mess they have cuffs that go up above the wrist. the cuff could make a strop too.

There are alot of small kits that are jam packed. Pat

omniviking, thanks, Yep I use the 1350 tig gloves. They are the only leather gloves I get. LOL I love um.
I use to run a welding shop before it was shut down.

This has been a great kit thread! Thanks for taking the time to share your insights with us Bryan and all who posted. Oh,and I definately want to try out that Warthorn design sometime.

Hi M, you are welcome. I got a few additions this past weekend but will post the pics later I want to work on my kit a bit and then will post up the pics.
as to the Warthorn, mistwalker told me I should think about maybe doing a passaround with one. That is a thought.
