Brent Cramer Knives

Brent,

Welcome to the "trying to fit multiple blades in a frame that seems only big enough for one" club!

A really nice outcome for your first try. Congrats

That looks great Brent, I'm sure your dad will love it.

Congrats on your first two-blade, now I really can't wait until my name comes up again!

Reese tells me that the half congress is the easiest 2-blade knife to make. WHATever :D I recon if a guy makes 6-blade congress every year just because then a 2-blade knife would seem easy.

Anywho...great work on this one Brent. Now make a 4-blade. ;)

Well thanks for all the complements.

It is a little like putting a pound of crap in a 1/2 pound sack.

That's more like 4 pounds in a 2 pound sack... the same ratios though:)

Nice job. Perfection is in the eyes of the beholder I guess

I just showed it to Reese and Tony today. They gave me some good advice. It's not perfect.... they caught the problem right away, but the next one will hopefully not have the same issues.

Lovely knife, Brent.
Must be a really nice feeling to have made your first multi-blade - guess there will be no stopping you now ! ;)
(better get back to the drawing board, as this now opens up a whole world of options for my next knife from you  :))

All the best,
Colin

Brent

Really am pleased to see you pushing yourself and can not wait to see you in a couple of weeks. Gus

Again, I want to thank you all for the encouragement.

Nice looking knife. How thick is the blades

Rick the spring and tangs are .110
The blades are very thin.... almost ground to zero. Nothing rubs on this one!

I've had some inquiries about the "imperfections on this knife. Since it wasn't going to be on the market I thought I wouldn't have to reveal my mistakes, but for the sake of learning...
and my humility..... here it is!

First the tang is too long.... The spring ends set out too far from the end of the tangs in the closed position.

Next I left almost no clearance between the tang and the bottom front of the spring in the open position.

Then the spring had too acute of an angle on the ends.

When I ground the top off the blade and spring to clean them up I went too far which left this minute gap. Now the spring sets flush on the tang.

Still all in all a nice knife.... just not one I would sell!

So there you have it.. :o

It's out there...

Now you know... :(

I'm not perfect... :p

But I will try again! ;)

When I can find the time. :grumpy:

to me it looks good enough anyway, would make a great user LOL
customs should be perfect but sometimes small "flaws" make it easier to use them, still looks great to me

compliments again for the first one!
Maxx

Brent,

Thank you for taking the time to share these imperfections. It is particularly beneficial to us aspiring slip joint makers.

Thanks,

That's just great. I guess that room I added on to house the bust of Brent Cramer was a TOTAL waste of money. :p

You should have known that your "Art Gallery" would be way too formal for us folksy folk!

I'm not perfect... :p

I have had this quote pasted to the inside lid of my tool box for the last 25 or so years,

"It is true that we shall not be able to reach perfection, but in our struggle toward it we shall strengthen our characters and give stability to our ideas, so that, whilst ever advancing calmly in the same direction, we shall be rendered capable of applying the faculties with which we have been gifted to the best possible account." Confucius

Keep up the good fight Brent!

Another nice one Brent. I do enjoy seeing each new project you do. I like the ebony scales on this one. Keep up the great work when you find the time.

Here's a new one that is on its way to Maine.

It's a LCJ Shadow in Ebony that turned out very nice.
