Bret Dowell: "Sowbelly Trapper"

I can see Elliott slipping that beauty into his silk smoking jacket while he enjoys a fine cigar and whiskey!

Seriously, that is one gorgeous creation from Bret!

If they don't make smoking jackets from denim or canvas, I'll have to do without. (I'll still take the cigar and whiskey though. ;))

Such clean lines. Simply elegant.
Congrats of owning such a stunner.

Glad you guys like it...wasn't sure how I'd feel about the ebony but I'm really liking it!

I like that a alot, Elliot that's what I've been wanting right there! I talked with you about a single blade and then I saw a couple 2 blades. Nothing I saw was at all close to this one. Bret drilled this one!! Ebony and those lines are just awesome!! Congrats!!

Jason,

Now might be a good time to get on Bret's list and start saving that loose change. ;)

(You'll be thanking me later. Trust me.)

You're right, I got on his list about 2 months ago!! I"m so glad I did!! That's a great looking knife!!! As always thanks for the advice!!

You sound like me :D. My dress pants are my Wranglers that aren't faded as much as the others. Or for really special occasions, I 'll wear my black Wranglers. Heck, thats what I wore when we got married.

I agree about the Ebony. I've only seen a few production knives with Ebony scales that I really liked, but the Ebony on this knife takes it to a different level IMHO. I really like it.

The shape of the knife just begs to be in hand. I could see using that knife for long periods of time, and not having it become uncomfortable.

LOL!, Mike. We must've been separated at birth. ;)

I was just now wondering which of my black jeans to wear for my formal evening out tonight. :p

And you're dead on about Bret's workmanship and how he radiused this knife to fit the hand.

I'm still in awe---That is one beautiful knife--it just rocks!!
Maybe someday--but for now I still can look and wish--it's still free.

Oh--As for the black Wranglers, I did not know there was anymore dress up than that. We got married in church so the hat had to wait untill the reception. But the black Wranglers, black western jacket, black Tony Lama lizzards, and a bright red shirt. Go figure--My wife picked out the shirt. LOL

Harold, thanks for those good words, I'm sure they'll mean a lot to Bret.

I would honestly suggest (if you have the slightest interest in a custom knife) your contacting Bret and having your name put on his list. He is one of a handful of makers whose prices are a bargain for the level of fit and finish they offer.

When your name comes up on the list you can decide what pattern you want (if you hadn't done so already). And if circumstances don't allow, you can ask the maker to skip past your name if necessary. There's no shame in that, we've all been there for one reason or another.

Anyway, my two cents for what it's worth and thanks again for taking the time to express your thoughts.
