Ever since seeing that PBS special Alone in the Wilderness i have been hankerin' for a nice double bit. i was eying the Gransfors Bruks version for a while, but the +$200 price tag turned me off. Well then, brian starts to modify snow and neally's so i contact him about getting a double bit. He was up for it, so recently i finally got my funds together and bought it. Brian is an extremely great guy to do business with or even just talk to about axes. he made the expirience very enjoyable.
so anyway, didnt really get any out-of-the-box photos, but ill do my best to describe it to you all. it was very clean, very shiny andVERY sharp. it didnt take long for me to get it and the other axes outside for a chopping session. First off, i had no chopable wood, but that was remedied by going into the neighbors woods (with there permission, of course. they like when i clear debris out of there) and chopping off a long segment of approx. 8'' thick log. i drug it back to my stumps and did a considerable amount of chopping.
ill let brian describe the modifycations he did, as he will obviously understand them a little more than i do. anyway, i took some pics. i also made a few videos (first ones, so dont be too critical) of me chopping and rambling on about the axe.
ill probably be adding to this thread a few times, with more thoughts and pics as i use it more and more, but here is the start of it.
the initial cut:
alongside friends:
one swing does some pretty significant damage to a peice of hardened pecan:
a couple more whacks, and it was through:
roughing out a board:
in hand:
again:
and again:
another veiw of one of the cuts:
more on the way, including videos.
