I am the original owner of a brand new direct from maker Cyclone by Brain Nadeau (Sharp By Design).
My detent ball has a flat spot. I probably flipped the knife less than a 100 times so I don't think that this occurred by natural wear...I think it may have been designed this way. To other Cyclone owners...Can you verify this for me before I reach out to Brian himself? The flipping action is OK but it does seem less smooth than it could be. What do you guys think?

I have a Typhoon but I'm pretty sure Brian uses the same design.
Mine is very smooth, opens with authority. But it is quite firm, actually feels tight compared to other flippers.
Is what you are feeling a firmness, or is it not smooth?

I believe a flat spot on a detent ball is an intentional design that is used to give the blade more "pop" when firing out.

It operates just fine, yes its firm as you described but my question has more to with the actual "physical" flat spot on the detent ball itself (see picture).

Brian used a proprietary "detent shoe" on the Typhoon, I wonder if it has been translated to the Cyclone as well. The "detent shoe" is an extended piece of metal integrated into the lockbar insert that serves the same purpose as a detent ball, but there was some added benefit to it that doesn't come to mind right now.

I suspect that as well, just wanted other Cyclone owners to chime in just to verify.

That's interesting.

PTRBEE, would you be so kind as to post up a pic of your knife? My typhoon is blue and I have yet to see a blue Cyclone, would like to see a pic of yours.
