So, I have this hawk I forged from a rusted brick hammer. I think it turned out great, except for one thing. The hammer originally had an integral, rubber-covered handle. I had to remove the rubber for forging. Now I need to know how to replace the handle. Here's the hawk:

In another thread, TheGeek574 suggested gluing leather strips in the grooves and doing a hemp wrap. I really like that, or possibly using paracord. I know what to use to glue the leather to the handle, but what should I use on the hemp/paracord? Should I use wood hardener or some type of epoxy or resin? Will the hemp cord that Wal-Mart sells work? It's in their jewelry section. How many layers of leather? Hemp?

Any other ideas? Someone mentioned a stacked leather handle, though I'm not sure I like that.

On the handle where the ruber grips were, grind from each side till it's about 1/2" wide and then do stacked leather washers with an end cap.

Hey,Broomhead,Id be happy to put a stacked leather handle on that for you.Heres the deal:you pay postage both ways and while Im working on it Ill show it off to my buddies and brag about it.When you get it back you show it off and brag and brag and brag.....(that is assuming you like the results, which I bet you will,In any case you could always tear it down and do your own thing)PM me if you like the idea.

That is a very generous offer Eric. I'm still unsure how I want to do it. I like both the stacked leather idea and the hemp wrap one. To order the leather washers it would be roughly the same price as shipping both ways would be. Difference is I don't have to mess with doing it if I send it to you. I have done a stacked handle on a knife that I rehandled for a friend and it was a pain in the butt. However, I'm also not sure I like that style of handle either. If I do send it your way, it will have to be in a couple of weeks when I have the funds.
