Well, I spent saturday hauling home and getting my new milling machine into the basement... With help from my friend Andre it went pretty smoothly. It was snowing of course but we didn't let that stop us..We used a 16' tripod and a chainfall to get the base and head down the stairs...The rest we carried down because we are dumb Ironworkers and we have a need to carry heavy awkward items down stairs. On sunday I cleaned and assembled the mill with the exception of the head.. I still need to attach the head and wire in a phase converter to go from 3ph to 1ph.. This is a 1950's J head round turrent machine that I picked up for $1150.00..

Honest Question Rocketmann,
So are you really happy and feeling good about the results....or are you thinking that tears are not out of order?
Especially from the jpegs, I think you are happy, which is COOL!
Thumbs UP!

That's just too cool that you managed to get that thing down in the basement without mishap, Louis!! I admire that. I wish you many years of great use from the machine.

As a guy who has worked heavy metal for years, I figured you would "Getter done" When your life is moving hugs of heavy you learn all the tricks and where not to stand. I really like that tripod. Looks like a great piece of equipment. I took a 671 Detroit out of my boat and installed a 3208 Cat while it sat in my back yard and the deck was over 10' up and the engine room hatch is inside the galley. Both motors weigh over a ton. Did it by myself with no power equipment. Just chain hoists a couple beam trolleys and scaffolding. Its all in the rigging, the brain power and at times a bit of beef that comes with years of hard work. Good job and enjoy the machine.

Thanks for the comments guys !! It took a bit of doing but it should be worth the trouble !!! I had planned to get a mill from grizzly or HF but after reading some posts by Higgy (where the heck is he BTW) I decided to go for the Bridgeport.. At $1150.00 it was close in price to the grizzly mill + shipping so here it is !! I still need to do some wiring and get it level and trammed up... With a little luck I should be cranking out some guards for the 15-20 unfinished blades that I have hanging around (I love to forge !).

glad to hear things are going good. i'll have to send you some small carbide end mills and rotary files so you can mill your guards.
