poll....wonder if there is only a handful of us or many more?

I didn't like the one I used to have 710sbt, when the steel was ATS-34. The flat slab sides just weren't comfortable in my hand, and the recurve was a pain to sharpen. Give it contoured scales and get rid of the recurve, and... maybe. There are other 3.9" bladed knives that are just as good.

While the 710 is an awesome looking, very capable knife, i think the new versions with standoffs have some of the most hit and miss action of any benchmades. I've had 3 of the new flavor in my possession, all had action issues. There needs to be an extra stand off closer to the axis lock, when you grip the handle near the top to pull the lock back jut that small amount of pressure can affect the action on the pivot. I'd love to see it return with a few improvements to the handle structure and new steel flavors. I also agree about taking away the recurve, it would be just as sexy looking without it and would make it easier to work with on different sharpening rigs. So i vote yes!

mine have been good, but nothing wrong on some improvement if it came back.

Recurve blade is a pain to sharpen, and we all know damn well that Benchmade would make it out of S30V steel.

Straighten that recurve and bring it back in 5 years when S30V comes on $2 SAK knockoffs.

I have one 710 in satin D2 that's stock and LNIB; another satin D2 modified with standoffs that I've done a lot of work on as it came to me in rough shape; a third D2 SBK that I bought just to have and 'cause it was short money when they were disco'd last fall; plus a 710-1401 which of course is M390 with standoffs. The first and third (with backspacers) aren't really broken in and their action is appropriately decent, though not nearly as good as the two with standoffs. The second, my user and favorite, absolutely free-drops with thumb only and the -1401 is very free with thumb-and-forefinger. So, no issue here with open construction on 710s.

As to the re-curve, it's one of the signature features that makes a 710 a 710. I like its looks, its utility, and have no issue sharpening on either the SharpMaker or with the narrow hones made for re-curves on the EdgePro.

I'd love to see this one of my favorite knives make a comeback. I'd like more options just to have 'em, but to my mind the knife doesn't need fixing.

low 80% wants it back in some form. so benchmade....consider it maybe?

How about bringing it back in small amounts (sprint runs, LE's) with varied blade steels & finishes and unique handle materials all sold at a premium price?

Dare I say, like Zero Tolerance's 0392 a factory custom.

I would imagine they will bring it back in short bursts of different steels and materials. It seems that knife makers are heading towards the limited, sprint run type of commerce. Don't even get me started on knife prices. lol :)

This strikes me as the most realistic future. As much as I love the 710, anyone who wants one can find a lot of them on the second-hand market. I wonder how many BM was selling new? But limited editions with various blade steels and other features should sell strongly, I believe.

I got my first 710 as a gift last December, and I really like the knife. I was sad when I heard they were phasing them out, and would love to see them come back. Quick question for 710 owners... out of the box, mine had a small amount of vertical play when opened slowly. If I snap it open, or push the axis bar forward when open, the play is gone. It doesn't worry me as much as a vertical play in a liner or frame lock, but does anyone else experience that with their 710s? It does kind of bother me, but it seems like it could possibly wear in with time? Thanks for the quick advice, and I'm not meaning to derail the topic! Just didn't seem important enough for its own thread.

I've owned a couple of models that had radial blade play and no adjustments were possible; side to side/centered not so much of an issue. In each case it required a trip up to the factory under full warranty. What I would suggest is letting the knife break in some, no harm done, to see if it gets better. If not they will take good care of your 710. We're not too far off-topic, I thought I'd answer your question here with my $.02 cents worth!

Thanks for the reply! Would they still work on such a problem even though the knife is now discontinued?
