Yes. Parts may eventually be an issue on discontinued models, but cleaning and sharpening, replacing Omega springs, etc. you're safe to send it in for servicing.

I didn't like the one I used to have 710sbt, when the steel was ATS-34. The flat slab sides just weren't comfortable in my hand, and the recurve was a pain to sharpen. Give it contoured scales and get rid of the recurve, and... maybe. There are other 3.9" bladed knives that are just as good.

The 710-1401 has scales with a better contour but the recurve remains. With the M390 steel it is really nice. I've been very impressed with Benchmade's M390 (this 710, Ritter Grips, 581 Barrage). It holds a great edge and touches up to razor sharpness easily with my Sharp Maker.

They put a recurve on the 698 Foray as well, which I could do without. But that's a small complaint on an otherwise outstanding little knife.

Edit: I've had good luck with my 710-1401. Solid lockup and smooth, drop-free action. No issues so far.

With the number of 710s in the field, I would imagine that parts for these will be available for a long time. Blades in steels other than D2 may become harder to get over time.

Well, I voted no. That being said, I own a couple and I like them. I also think the design is dated and I can get a knife that works better for me than the 710. I always liked the smaller brother of the 710, the 705 (I think). I EDC a Blackwater Tactical edition of that one all the time. I think the design works better on a smaller scale. Good luck in your quest however.

Since I got some AFCK's with AXIS locks and M390 blades, my 710's have seen much less pocket time.

yeah but only the blue black m390, which is a great version.
I got my 710 for a decent price from a Canadian site (that seems to actually still have quite a few older/discontinued models from several manufacturers) which has a few brick and mortar locations in the lowermainland of BC, Canada. However, the only model they sell is the 710SBKD2. They ship Canada-wide and to the US, although for everyone south of the border, I'm sure there are still a few American retailers that are selling new 710s without the added hassle of having your knife go through customs.

The problem with the 710 wasn't with the 710. It was with the outdated handle scales and steel choice (I actually love d2, but in a ~$175 people expect more.)

Bring it back in CF or at least a colored g10 and m390 and it'll sell.

Edit: We need photos.

They have it in a colored g10 and m390 avaliable right now from knifeworks

Yeah, but it's an exclusive and maybe it's just me, but I find those handles REALLY terrible looking.

Oh, I don't know, I liked the look of photoman's enough that I ordered one for myself. Since I didn't have a 710 yet, it seemed like the prudent thing to do.

The handle scales are replaceable; I agree the mottled black n' blue leaves my money in my pocket. The M390 blade's the ticket though.

not just you. steel i like but those scales are just ugly and turn me off, but i can tolerate them for the steel and it being a 710 which is a great designed knife.

Glad I can contribute to the sickness:D
I'm pretty neutral (don't love or hate it) on the color but I like the M390 steel a lot. I snagged that one off USN for $130 which made the color a non-issue for me.

Yours has a lot of blue, which I like. And yeah, I figured if the 710 is discontinued I better get one while I can. Can't really miss with the M390, like you said.

Don't forget, you can always dye the slabs a darker color, say RIT Black. It might even be possible to tint it using RIT red to try a purple, or a Dark Blue to darken it a bit.
The Dark blue will allow it to show in sunlight, but be pretty much black otherwise.

Did someone say 705, P pedropcola ? Did I hear pics, Petunia D. Feeble Petunia D. Feeble ?

Here's my lot. I love the the 710 and 705 together as they were literally made for each other. My 707 Sequel is hiding in there somewhere. That one wears a set of DOAT CF scales now as I'm not much for aluminum grips.

I love the feel of the -1401 in hand but find the blue/black thing kinda meh. Don't love it, don't hate it.

NICE collection. Bet it took longer to find the 705's. Odd thing about the little brothers...very strong builds and great blades, but they weren't made in the same production numbers compared to the 710 series. They Are worth seeking as pieces of Benchmade's history.
