Bring back the Rock Lobster! Please?

FYI, Spyderco was a preferred supplier for the America cup winner. We supplied knives for all of the sailors for safety reasons, as well as the chase boats for the same reasons. The Chase boat had a Temperance 2 strapped to the console. The head guy on the chase boats had to have a Rock Lobster for himnself. we chased one down for him.

That's a cool story and I think a great reason for a sprint Rock Lobster in H-1. ;)

And you know why he had to have one?.....Because they are awesome!...lol.

I would love to get one. Got into Spydercos too late to get one at sane prices.

A v2 with handle tweaks would be great. Or just make this available (and give M Slysz his 3rd knife):

never even heard of this knife until now ... it sort of reminds me of the southard flipper, but even better looking.

One on the Bay right now (well 2 actually but one from Italy is wayyyyyy to stupid priced IMHO) anyway - one with 16 bids ending today. The bid jumped from $148.00 to & $185.00 overnight. I suspect it will end up much higher. I decided not to play on this one.

UPDATE - I decide to play on the Bay yesterday after all and as the 17th bidder I won myself a RockLobster NEW IN BOX for $ 207.50 + $ 5.00 S&H. :D Seems like expensive but then I think that after the seller pays the fees he will net less than $ 180.00. My good luck I think, to have found this one.

I had set myself a $ 215.00 limit and actually only bid $ 212.00 at the last 30 seconds and my snipe paid off. There is always an element of risk picking a Spyderco off the Bay but the seller has a good reputation/rating and the knife was sold as NEW/Unused and besides is the RL a knife that someone would choose to fake?

I hope I will be happy with it. Being a guy from Maine I just thought I should own the Lobster. I real like the looks of it and expect it to be a great working EDC in the rotation with my old Endura and my pretty new Southard.

Good luck to those still looking and yes please - BRING BACK THE ROCK LOBSTER.

Congrats man! I'm sure you'll like it! If not I bet ther is an otter that would take it...lol! Don't be afraid to use it and beat it cuz it will handle it just fine!

Well, this thread made me think I might have been unfair to my Rocklobster, so I decided to give it another chance. I felt like a paleontologist digging through the layers of my storage chest until I finally unearthed the box. I pulled it out, opened it up and held it for the first time in a couple of years. The ergonomics were even worse than I remembered, but the nested liners were smaller than I recalled, so there is room to grind the handle into something I might be able to use. Once that little task is finished, maybe I'll be able to like the knife as much as I wanted to when I bought it.

Or you could sell it here in about 5 minutes :)

So lesson learned here is either work hard in life to become lead guy on Chase boat to attain respect for demands from Spyderco, and that way you can get your hands on a Rock Lobster... or just risk the rough waters of the electronic bay and gamble your funds and sanity in hopes of scoring.
Damn, doesn't look like I'll be handling a lobster anytime soon.

I do really dig that Slysz pictures above though!

I always seem to drift toward the odd spydercos or the ones that people either love or hate. Next is a Dodo I definitły need to score a dodo! So many knives so little money! But always money for a Rock Lobster!

I'm just like you Lazy (may I call you Lazy or do you prefer Mr. Otter  :D). I have owned and loved the CHOKWE and the TUSK and have been eyeing the NILAKKA and the ROC and now have an R LOBSTER incoming. Thing is I try to hold on to these as users and gets to the point that I need to choose one over the other rather than having a drawer filled with "knife stuff" so I sell them off at a huuuuuge loss in the secondary market.

I'm beginning to rethink my knife purchasing strategy .

I've got a Chokwe and Nilakka and love both. Never looked at them as folders that others hate though...?
Seems the Jot always catches the flames.
I don't think the Roc is even available, is it?

I'd love a Taiwan-made Rock Lobster with the silver twill scales found on the Air.

Blade steel I could care less about - it's a hell of a design

The Roc made my list too! If I wasn't broke I would have a field day on the exchange right now so many older spydercos I'd love to have but my next foreseeable buy is a swamp rat ratchet I have on hold in April so far away! I don't think I'll make it! But funds will make me wait and I gotta get that before I can get anything else!

Got my Lobstah in the pot today (it's a Mainer thing :D). Been EDCing a Southard for a while now and need to relearn how to deploy the Spyderco blade with the hole rather than with the flipper. I think I can handle it but it makes me laugh that now I need to think about opening the knife. After 6 years of EDCing an Endura using the Spydie hole was a natural motion.

The RL is very nice. It is asking me to come up with custom scales. i will very likely oblige .

I don't think the Roc is available yet? Or did I miss the release?

What do you have in mind for scales? Post up some photos!

As I intend to keep this one as a user and not as a collectors knife I intend to replace and reprofile the scales. Will likely use wood (as I know how to work wood) but my original idea was to use some brass flat bar that I have - a bit too thin though now that I have the knife to compare. To bad the brass was really working for me.

Anyway I want to make it a bit thicker - more rounded, and narrow allowing more of the blade to be exposed when closed. I like the knife pretty well as it is but the liners are small enough that I can play with the shape of the scales and so I will. Won't toss out the original scales. Yes, I will post photos when I have a set that I like. Don't hold your breath though it could be months
