Me? Nope.... his mom is enough of a roll model.
Here are two conversations I had with her early on.

Me “Oh so you ride bikes”

Her “yes a little, but I’m not consistent. I just ride about four to six weeks before a big ride that my friends and I have done for the past eight years. I do that ride with them and then pretty much put the bike down for the rest of the year.”

Me “So what ride do you and your friends do?”

Her “The Davis Double” (that is a 200 mile ride)

Me: “You did that with them eight times!!!”

Her: Well seven, one year I blew out my knee skiing and my Dr said not to ride if it was raining and well it rained.

Me: Oh so you did it seven times

Her: “No eight, the year I missed I went back alone the next weekend and did it alone.”

Me: Have you ever been to the top of Half Dome (a 9,900 ft. granite feature of Yosemite Park with a roughly a 2,000 ft face.)

Her: Yes a few times.

Me: Cool I have hiked up there pretty much ever year since 1995. How long did it take you to do it?

Her: Well a day in and then a day to get up and then a day out

Me: Three Days? Oh so it was a back pack and camping trip.

Her: Oh no, no… I climbed the face.



When I go see her I leave my ego home... where it can't get hurt

Old Physics kinda forgot the other kid of ours that is going to nationals - yeah he is not as much as a contender at 18 and competing as an adult male up to 150lbs - but you gotta credit him for getting in the ring with 4 degree black bets.

That boy is far braver than I.

He's going to have some scary competition. He will get hurt -- but it doesn't phase him.

Make his old man proud.
