When the umnumzaan first came out, I did not rush to get one being smitten my my large regular sebenza which was my edc at the time. After awhile, I finally gave in and got one. Since then, my beloved large regular sebenza has been all but a safe queen only being carried sparingly.......I have carried the umnumzaan on the bottom almost daily and you can see from the scratches on the S30V blade, that it got much use. I have posted several pics of me using it over the last year or so and it has never let me down.............After passing on a tanto umnumzaan from a fellow forum member last year, when one came up again, I grabbed it. Also from a fellow forum member. It was slightly scuffed and I did a light scotchbright treatment and it removed all the scuffs except one by the clip. I really like the full belly of the tanto blade. Though its not as usable as the standard blade profile, it does have its place. Since I got it, I have been trying it out and it hasn't disappointed................Yesterday, my like new from ebay Wilson Combat umnumzaan arrived. If it was carried you would never know. Factory edge and all. Only the lanyard was untied and after looking on youtube, was easily able to tie the new "snake knot" lanyard back on. The Wilson Combat has some subtle differences over the regular umnumzaan. The main difference other than the handle grooves is the chamfer on the outside of the lockbar on the Wilson Combat. There is no difference on the height of the raised lock release. I do not notice any improved grip in the Wilson Combat with the different grooves, other than that it just simply feels different.

I urge all of you that haven't tried the umnumzaan to give it a try, in any configuration. You can get a good used one for about $50 bucks less than new and sometimes even cheaper than that. It is a true workhorse of a knife and with Legendary CRK Quality, you cant go wrong.

Now the real problem........Which to carry !!! Enjoy The Pics.

That is a very nice trio, I was on my way to getting those exact three, I started out with the wilson starburst one, which I really really liked.

It felt amazing in hand, and was rock solid. The swedge worked very nicely too.

The only reason I fell off the umnumzaan bandwagon was the size, I thought that the large size was nice, but after getting a small regular seb just to try out the regular side, I found that I like the smaller size better for an edc/work knife.

I do regret selling it, but I was forced to after getting 3 in a row sm reg sebs.

I know for a fact that if I come into a ring of money in the futuer an umnumzaan is on my short list.

I have carried the Wilson Combat Umnumzaan for a year now and I think it is the perfect knife. I enjoy using it each time I pull it out of my pocket and should last a lifetime if not abused. Each morning I have to decide if it is going to be a Sebenza carry day or a Umnumzaan carry day.

Very nice trio. I've been using my Umnumzaan a lot over the last few weeks and you're right, a real workhorse. I agree, the Umnumzaan is a good choice. (Thanks again Haze for talking me into it a few weeks ago!)

Nice collection of knives. The Umnumzaan is probably my overall favorite knife, and Im going to pick me up one of those Startac Umnumzaans very very soon :D

I got it on eBay last week. Was about $60 less than new from WC. It stated it was used and " only ever cut paper and tape sparingly". There is not even the slightest blemish or scuff with factory edge and could easily pass as NIB. I was kinda surprised I got it when the bidding ended. The BD is October 26, 2010 and it has S30V. All 3 are nice. I really like the tanto blade but the regular blade profile is more useful. The Star-Tac and the regular Zaan are basically the same. They do feel different in the hand because of the different grooves. Other than that, it's a toss up !!!

Nice trio. I'm kinda a large regular guy as well, but after being reunited with my Zaan it seems it is the go to knife. I had one of the first run Wilson Combat Star Tac's and they are very nice.

Nyefmaker, I was already thinking of buying a Umnumzaan but your post sent me into a must find mode. I lucked out and found a used one last night, it should be on it's was today. Looking forward to it. I really like my Sebenza 21, large which started it for me last week. I also have a Sebenza small coming directly from CR. So even though I will be cash poor, I will be Chris Reeve rich :). Very nice trio you have....

Love the pics...Now I just need to get a tanto blade on one of mine..Gonna start looking now...Congrats on the Trio and thanks for the review.

Very nice collection! All you need is the Umnumzaan Insingo, and you'll have them all.... Oh wait, I might have dreamed that one up :D

If for some reason you lost all three, which would be the first you'd buy again?

Thanks for the comments. I would probably buy just the regular standard umnumzaan if I were to only buy ONE. If buying New, is the Wilson Combat worth $30 more, not really. The groves and the chamfer are the only real differences. I have used my regular umnumzaan for everything. I whittled, cut shingles, food prep, cut countless cardboard, you name it, I have done it with my umnumzaan ( normal knife stuff, no prying, using as a hammer - I have seen pics of others...lol ). With everything I have done with it, the grip has been perfect as well as its performance. I really love the tanto blade, but I just feel if someone wanted ONE, the standard blade is more useful. Its nice to have both and can compare. The tanto blade does offer alot more belly, which I Really Like about CRK tanto blade design.......As eye appealing as the Wilson Combat umnumzaan is, the original regular umnumzaan profile is still my favorite..................

I think Im gonna have to try an umnum out. Even though theres still more versions of the sebbie I want I feel I should at least give the umnum a chance.
And who knows, maybe Ill become an umnum convert too. The Wilson Combat looks really sharp.

The umnumzaan is a great knife. I edc'ed a large regular sebenza for quite sometime, once I got the umnumzaan, it has rarely been carried. If you want a excellent, heavy duty folder, this is certainly the one. I highly recommend it.

Thanks so much for the Umnumzaan comparisons, Nyefmaker. Seeing them laid out as such has helped me to decide on which one to pursue...first, that is.

Attn: rororo64,

Called WC the other day and inquired if they had plans to switch the Startac steel over to S35VN and they said they would keep it S30V- with no plans on change over, anytime soon.

I'm pretty sure they don't have a choice in the matter. The person you talked to probably didn't know better or said that to get you to buy without waiting.
