Bringing Home The Bacon -waring Grafic Pics

I got treed one time as a kid by a fire breathing, bloodshot eyed monster hog over your way once. At least, thats how the thing seemed to my ten year old eyes :) That was over in Hardee though if I remember right.

Looks like fun! Thanks for sharing.

You guys hunting over corn or something, or spot and stalk?

I imagine you had to track a little on the big boar, 30-30 in the shoulder, might have taken him a while to lay down (unless that lead bounced around a bit on the inside)?

Looks like a great hunt!

Great pics. Man, how i wish those things were in my area.:)

Be careful what you wish for! And, oh... don't worry soon you will have them. They have an average litter size of 4.2 piglets (but can be as high as 12) and breed up to 3 times a year. Sows begin breeding at 6 months of age. Now, I am no mathematician but that adds up to a lot of pigs in a pretty short time frame. Throw in the fact that they have no natural enemies down here and there is really nothing to stop them (except me!):D.

They cause a lot of damage to fences, and agriculture, but damn they are fun to shoot. The great thing down here in Texas is that there is "open-season" on them with no limits. Kill with extreme prejudice! Some counties have a "bounty" on them.

3 years ago, we started seeing hog tracks at our ranch, but never saw a hog. Now we are seeing groups of 15-20 on a fairly common basis.

If you don't have them yet, you soon will. ;)

We've got pigs in West Texas, also... albeit 5 fewer, now....

I took these in early December while deer hunting, been away from the forum too long... glad to see this thread.

The FBM is a FANTASTIC HOG Blade in more ways than one.... We used mine to skin and quarter a couple of sows, no chips or rolls in the edge, even after CHOPPING through the rear femurs. Zipped through the hide with ease. We took the tenderloins and hams, backward skinning on these... The FBM is Perfect for the application. 3 minutes on the ceramic stick, back to shaving.

I love my FBM.

If the bottom pic is too graphic, PM and I'll remove.

Rem700 in .308 Hornaday lite Magnum 165grBTSP - hit like Thor's Hammer... I love the round. Shot one piglet behind the head - DRT, spine severed as if chopped with the FBM itself.

Wow...nice job Rat 30! I swear... chopping up lumber is one thing, but I have seen nothing yet that tests a knife edge like cleaning a feral hog (or 5 in your case!). Cutting through thick hair mixed with sand/mud/dirt (from wallowing), a thick hide, and thick strong bones to cut through, makes it tough as hell. Those pigs are built like a Mack truck!

Great pics! Thanks for sharing.

I promise you, you have to use these blades to truly appreciate what they can do...

I had two guys with me, and one has used his Busse Hell Razor to clean deer, split deer pelvis, skin, chop firing lanes, etc. That's his Hell Razor in the mouth of the pig in my avatar... :) He doesn't post here much, but he uses the blade well. But neither he nor his Dad who was with us, believed that the FBM would actually do what it did without more than scuffing the finish and dulling the blade slightly. The ceramic stick fixed that, no further sharpening required - it's ready for more pig! :)

And the pigs are well built, but they can't shrug off a well-aimed .308... :)

PS - We used an FBM, a Hell Razor and a wee little Game Warden to see which one works best in our pig work - 3 votes for Fusion Battle Mistress! :)

And here is a picture of about another group of about 9 little piggies I'm stalking... this time only about an hour drive from my house... My buddy sent this photo to me while I was out, and told me to 'come shoot them'... Guess I'll go see what I can do... :)

Dang. I guess it's Railhead BBQ pork ribs for lunch today. Texas is crawling with hogs, but they must be smart because I haven't hit one with my truck yet.

Thanks, Wired - nice photos of yours, as well.

Maq - careful what you wish for! A dog is tough on the truck, a pig might total it... :)

I do my part to keep 'em off the highways... ;)
