Bringing knives to Australia

Hi everyone,

Now that Australia has allowed the importation of single handed and flipper knives, I have been looking into a few which are available to the majority of the forum in the United States, which are unfortunately not available where I live (or have an extremely high mark-up).

I was just wondering, seeing that I will be visiting the United States in a few months, does anyone know the 'unofficial' import limit on the amount of knives perhaps? What I mean by an 'unofficial import limit' is a limit which will not be confiscated or destroyed if customs deems it as for commercial use, which is not what I intend these knives to be.

Additionally, has anyone brought any knives to Australia and had them confiscated in a large quantity?

The knives which I am currently looking at are a few Spydercos, mainly the Endura and Delica 4, as well as some of the Kershaw range. I will also be bringing back some SAKs and Leatherman multi tools as gifts, which is why I am concerned.

If there is anything else that I should know about, please let me know.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully someone will have an answer for me.

I travelled to the US in late January for two weeks, and brought back 3 Spydercos and 2 Benchmades. Customs back in Sydney didn't seem to mind at all, they opened my suitcase and only checked out 1 Spydero and didn't touch the rest of the knives. Since the new laws, I doubt you'd have any problem whatsoever bringing in knives no matter what quantity.

They'll probably only think it's for commercial use if you have like 4 suitcases full of nothing but knives, but I really don't know if there's an actual limit, it'd have to be a ridiculous amount of knives.

You'll be fine mate, don't worry.
