Hey,
I saw that patrick has the kit on his sight. I want to make a lighter weight version of my current survival kit for backpacking. What I was wondering is would it be cheaper to just buy the pre-made kit ($40), or try to put it together on my own? I think it may be cheaper to just buy it, considering a button compass is about $8 by itself. Also, I haven't yet been able to find a good tin.
Opinions, suggestions?

No disrespect to Patrick intended, but I ordered the product directly from Penrith for a total of $28 (and a little change) shipped from the UK to the US. (This comes out to 19.89 UK pounds shipped. The price listed on the site is the UK price which includes their VAT. The price is less to the U.S.)

The web address is:

http://www.edirectory.co.uk/penrithsurvival/index.htm

Open the drop down menu, go to "Sundries" and scroll down until you get to "Survival Kit".

Again, no disrespect intended toward Patrick or Triple Aught, a valued member of this community. I wouldn't have posted this had it been his own thread offering them for sale.

www.outlaw.com carries the British SAS type survival kits imported from the UK by Lewis International for about $25 plus shipping.

I think you'll find, in general, its cheaper to buy a kit of some kind and then customize it to your own needs.

As for tins like that to be used for survival kits....tobacco shops should carry such things. Altoids boxes and other various commercial tins would work as well if you want to build your own.

One thing to note though is that no matter what you use, if its metal, you may want to give it a layer of something to make it less likely to rust.

Visit Doug Ritter's site: http://www.equipped.com/

This site is great reference for info about many commercial survial kits plus some good suggestions for building your own.

yipes! just got the heads up on this thread.

our pricing is not in line with other retailers.

we used the incorrect 17.50 british pounds as our cost, that is actually MSRP.

DOH...

it will be fixed momentarily on our website.

no wonder this hot little item has been moving a bit slowly.

any that we have sold will be credited the difference.
