BRK Natives

Sorry for the bailout, Sal...
I recalled my post more for its strident tone than its content. I expected to revisit the topic in the other forum. I appreciate your addressing it even in its absence.

I don't know the answer to all situations that can occur in today's market. I have an S10 Chevy Blazer documented that it was assembled in Shreveport, LA. My Dodge Ram was made in Mexico. The parts were no doubt manufactured and subbed out wherever it was either expedient or cheapest. It is probably impossible for a consumer to track these things beyond that stamped/invoiced/stickered location.

You then must either trust the "Name Brand" or the "location"(Seki City..Golden) or inspect the goods for quality. I don't have a store that carries Spydies locally. I do my purchasing online. I trust pictures of the knife as far as I can make out details for condition and finish. I check out the steel type and brand as stamped/etched on the blade. The seller can innocently or otherwise misrepresent the knife in his description butt if I can get a clear picture of the knife I feel that I can make an informed decision based on its markings as to whether it is a Spyderco or a "knockoff"

The BRK Native has the name Spyderco on the blade as well as the location of Golden. If that is not a Spyderco knife and must be sent to Camillus for warranty, then I must wonder about others in my collection.

Again, I repect you for addressing this publically.

Interesting story about the BRK Natives! Thanks for the explanation, Sal.

I had figured the blade blanks were made in Golden and shipped to Camillus for final grind and hole punching (am I right about the hole being PUNCHED out?). However, the blades were made in N.Y.

Whatever you do, avoid this sort of thing in the future! "U.S.A." would've been okay, but not "Golden," IMO.

The blades (indeed the entire knife) may be "nice for the price," but they do not have the fit and finish I normally expect from Spyderco. (BTW, everyone I sold an example to loves their new knife!)

Sal, I want you to feel REAL GUILTY ABOUT THIS WHOLE DEAL, and know that the guilt can be expunged with the expedient production of the LARGE NATIVE! :D

And collectors out there should get a copy of this BRK knife to add to their collection. C'mon, don't be a "steel snob." 440A won't kill ya. :)
