BRKT "Barktario" Machete Review

Thanks for the link bro! I like this concept alot. Being an owner and user of the ontario 12" version, I like the modified one better--convexed edge, better ergo's and slightly larger-I may just have to pick one up know!

We need both machetes and goloks depending on the job. Each has its own strong and weak points.
However when you tackle a fifty or so giant bamboo stalks you'll be glad you have a golok. See my little write up about chopping some giant bamboo with a golok and machete yesterday morning. I have two more goloks on order when the new run comes out.

I tried some trail clearing this afternoon and the KSF Machete was less work and easier on the arm than the BRK&T Golok moving thru honeysuckle, small pines, black berries and tall weeds. The thinner blade and wider profile made wide swing cuts on soft vegetation and light vines much easier. The wider blade profile makes it easier to sweep cut vegetation aside before it falls clear of the blade. The golok can clear trails but the machete is better suited for it.

I guess that is why there are some many different styles of big bush knives. It's more than just regional preference.

That is Kevins normal look in the woods. You should see his look when he spots a hot looking woman.

Placed an order for the Machete with KSF on Saturday, received an Email from them that it was shipping on Monday, and it arrived today. I could not be happier with it. It is SHAVING sharp, super light and fast, and the perfect size. The sheath is incredible. Great quality and fits the Machete perfectly. I love the holes for lashing to a pack. Overall, a great buy. Cant wait to put it to use. Thanks for the review! KSF is awesome to do business with, BTW...

Great review. The machete looks perfect, I would love one, but I have a Golok on order and very few knife $$ left, so the golok will have to do haha.. Can't wait to get it.

Great review. Another fine example of the power of CONVEX. I like that they carried the convex edge all the way to the spine. I've always thought that under all the steel of the Ontario machetes there were blades waiting to be discovered, lots of room to play with. That's alot of work to convex an entire blade like that. Mac

It would make more sense to me if instead of doing a full pimping Mike just "roughly" reground/retouched the edges to a convex. I can't see practical advantages that would warrant the relatively extravagant cost when compared to a NIB Ontario. A bitchin' convex grind would be nice though and would ideally offer a significant decrease in price when compared to a full overhaul. Just my $0.02 :D

Cheers,

It isn't hard to put a decent convex grind on a machete up front where it counts most but taking it all the way to the spine along the entire blade is alot of work, even with the proper tools.

I wonder about that little stub near the pinky. It seems like it could concentrate alot of force to the finger on impacts with hardwood. Thats just the impression it gives, no pun intended. Mac
