Wondering if anybody has experience with either or both of these knives?

For a wilderness do-it-all 5" blade... That means carving, food prep and heavier tasks such as batoning etc...

Either knife will do those tasks for you. I'm a going to be biased towards the Alpha but I think it has a few things over the 1.25.

They are similar in blade length with the Alpha being an 1/8" longer. The handles both have a palm swell and nice radiused corners (gen 2 alpha). Some of the finer points of the Alpha that I like better is the better balance. The knife balances right on your index finger, the 1.25 is a little bit weight forward. I also like the spear point design for carving, although you can have the 1.25 made into a spearpoint if you wish. The shape of the handle makes my hand feel a little more secure with the larger integrated guard.

The material thickness is a little less on the alpha which I think gives it better edge geometry, along with its flat grind. The 1.25 comes with a good leather sheath that has a drop loop built in, snap closure, and is now ambidextrous. With the Alpha you have the option for a kydex sheath or leather pouch.

Those are some of the highlights. The price for either is about the same, depending on the handle material. The Alpha gen 2 is a little cheaper though when compared the same handle material and finish.
