BRKT Hudson Bay Camp Knife

I have been selli9ng some stuff in order to afford one of those. I love it and plan to get a matching mikro canadian both in a dark wood.

I actually compared INFI to a different A2 knife and the INFI held an edge a bit lnger but the A2 was also very good and came back with just a few light touches with an EZ-LAP.

I love the HBK knife as it is part of the local history where I live. Here are a couple real Hudson bay Knives. Apparently Mike changed a few subtly details so they could not be artificially aged and sold as originals.
Here are the ones from Prince Albert Saskatchewan.

Somehow I just knew this model would be right up your sled dog trail, Unsub. Oddly enough, this design makes just as much sense to me in a semi-tropical climate. I think the original camp knife design might still be the best.

Looks nice but something about the angles in the handle put me off, plus the LARGE pins. Maybe in the hand would make me like it more. Feel like sending it off for a while??? (kidding, I wouldn't be able to use it even if I had it).

Glad it suits you well.

Check the BRKT section of "the other forum" and you can get in on the passaround...

I like the Idaho Knife Works version as well !

Pit,

Do you have one of those Idaho Knife Works Hudson Bays?

That particular knife has been on my Holy Grail list for awhile now...I'd have to sell a kidney to get one though.

No I'm afraid not. It looks to be a perfect camp knife but I'm not sure that I really need one bad enough to lay out that sort of money !

Guys I have a Idaho Knife Works Hudson Bay on order and expect delivery soon hopefully before my combo deer/elk/bear/mt lion traditional muzzleloader hunt slated the second week of November.

I'll post pictures when I can...and will give a rundown/review on how it perform after my hunt. I will be living in the wild primative style and hunting so after 10 days I should be able to have a credible report!

I had Mike Mann customed sized it for my hand and mission. For my mission the blade length is shortened so I can use it for both hunting and wild work. I don't need a camp knife or chopper as I'm committed in having an ax with me at all times. But I do need a balanced fixed blade for game processing tasks and wild survivial chores (making snares, creating bow 'n drill sets, shelter construction, whittling tasks etc).

Even with a shorten blade it still is historically correct as many blades were damaged or broken during use and in the pre-disposal period of the 1800-early 1900's the owners would have the blade re-shaped and re-ground and continue using it. They didn't throw anything away.

I've heard both good things and bad things about the bolsters on the barkies. Bash the heck out of it and see if it gets loose!

As far as any hudson bay questions go, talk to woodsmoke on KF. He is a really big fan.

Did you know Matt from ML knives makes one too? I've had my eye on this one for a while

I think that Mr. Stewart said that the bolsters on the Hudson Bay Camp Knife are not pinned on like the Rogue.

I believe he said that the bolsters are bolted on with corby type bolts.

I doubt that those will come loose.

Well, it it breaks, I'll just send it back. Seems to be well made, like all the Barkies I have.
