What would you recommend to stop the rusting, pitting, and help maintain my knife?

What oil should I use?

Any other recommendations?

If you are nowhere near food with it, I do not think there is a better rust preventative that Break Free CLP.

If you are going to get it near food, I would just use vegetable or mineral oil. A2 is more rust resistant than what I typically use, and I do not even oil mine. I am surprised you are having an issue.

+1 for mineral oil.

Whatever oil comes with the Lansky kits works alright too. Its pretty much the only thing in the kit that I use any more ;).

I use Mobile 1 5W-30 on some of my firearms and have used it on knives as well. Just avoid stuff like cooking oils unless you like scrubbing it off with a scotch pad.

A good protective oil, and don't store the knife in the sheath. If the sheath is the problem, moisten a swab with mineral oil and run it down inside the sheath.

I seldom feel the need for one (SoCal here is pretty darn dry!), but when I do, it's a light coat of mineral oil after a brief bit of work with Flitz.

Pretty much any oil that won't start rotting will do fine. Mineral oil, motor oil, gun oil, it's not that important unless you plan to use it with food (in which case use mineral oil). Just be sure to take all of the old rust off first.
