Bro needs a knife

I keep telling my brother he needs to get himself a Busse/Bussekin. He may or may not go fanatical about them after his first, as I've always been the knife nut. He does hunt, and camp and fish and recognizes the vast difference between any knife he has, and the Busses I've showed him.

The one that caught his eye was my Skinny ASH-1. He actually prevented me from selling it after praising how great it is. Slung in a Steelnut sheath with fire steel loop, he said it would be his perfect "survival knife"

Ok, so although he "thinks" the Skinny is the one, he's had no exposure to any other Busse, so I'm on a quest to show him as many as possible before deciding. Trouble is, I'm not half as versed in Busse knife specs as some of you guys. I get the feeling he's going to want something around the same size as the skinny, and similar thickness.

What can I recommend in the under 7" category with a blade thickness at .20" or less? .22" is probably ok... .25" would be pushing it.

I'm going to show him a Ratweiler, but that's probably outside of what he'll want. (More like something I want though :D) Right now price isn't a factor, but I know he isn't going to want anything above $500

Face it man, he wants your knife :D! He wants it from you as a gift.

DEF CHECK out the SFNO thread that MAX listed the other day showing the different styles of my SFNOs. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=773756

a saber SFNO may be the ticket ass it is a 7" blade and the saber will thin iit down a bit but nice and thick .25 at the spine!!

too bad you guys didn't live closer to me I'd let you handle some sfno goodness:D:thumbup:

Thanks for the offer. I wish I could take you up on it. I'll show him the thread though.

He does! He already mentioned that. "You should just give me yours and find yourself something else." Right after he told me not to sell it because it's my first Busse.

My brother is lucky though... He's going to get his first Bussekin and probably score an awesome user with little to no research. When I bought my ASH it was like I was in a haze that cleared little by little with every thread I read and picture I saw and PM I sent.

He gets to sit back while I email link after link from Hog Cult and the exchange.

I love my SARsquatch as an allarounder. I would recomend it to anyone looking for a 7in blade. Reasonable price for a Busse knife too. Here's mine (not the best pics, but oh well.)
Sarsquatch

The SAR 4 might appeal to him

Camp Tramp and SOD are nice too

Just give him your Ash he's your brother man. Then get want you want, something different maybe. I've given away knives on more than one occasion to family and friends. ;)

I really wish I could. It would make me proud and him happy. I'm just not in the position to buy another $300-$400 knife any time soon. I just don't have the funds.

Most I would recommend for what you are looking for are already listed.

Original SFNO, Sarsquatch, TankBuster......(may be thicker than he wants, but really not as thick as the CGahs1's, so still in a more reasonable thickness).

NMSFNO is a bit longer, but also a great all arounder.

I loved my Ash1cg. Great feeling handle in the hand, but I agree that the handle did limit the grip options for chopping. Much harder to choke back.

I don't think there is anyway I will ever get my Brother and Dad to buy one. They just don't get high quality knives.

Dad has no problem laying out thousands on a rifle, then trigger/action job, then nice scope in addition to the base cost.

But thinks a $30 knife is great.

He came home with the Biggest POS knife the other day. He was so proud of it. Think Dark ops mated with S&W knives. He won't ever carry it, just leave it in his truck to break the window or cut seat belts. I had to tell him, though, to never pry or trust the lock with his fingers.

Back to the OP topic, you are either a great bro, for getting him into quality knives, or you are the devil (depending on how addicted he gets).

Well he can appreciate well made things, but knives were never specifically a hobby or an obsession. A few weeks ago I was debating selling either my HG55 or my Skinny, and I turned to him as outside advice. Sort of a different perspective. When I handed him the ASH, his eyes lit up and his shear appreciation of it forced me to keep it. He said, being an outdoorsman he has a lot of quality, best you can buy stuff, but no real knife. He said "This is the knife I would own if I was going out and not coming back"

Its also the ONLY Busse he's ever held, so...:D

Man- it was love @ first sight. You'll probably never be able to change it.
Get him a skinny ASH already.
Call it a just in time for hunting x-mas present...then just bring beer x-mas day and sharpen knives :)
