UPDATE: the knife has been sent off as of monday, March 4th

Well, I took my pocket clip off today to attempt to bend it back a bit after I caught it on something and bent it out (wouldn't grip my pocket)

I got it bent back ver close to how I wanted it and then put the screw back in. when screwing it back in, it was stiff, but didn't give me any trouble. It got to the end and I snug it like I do all screws and it just snapped at the head. I don't push hard or anything whenever I snug a screw, I work in a machine shop in the summer and got a good feel for it after stripping aluminum out too many times. I put the same amount of force on it that I do on an aluminum part.

So my question is, How can I get the screw out?

or is my best best to contact CRK and see what they can do for me?

thanks for the help

oh, and on a side note, I never realized how comfortable these are to hold with the pocket clip off...

Looks like you have room to clamp some vice grips on there and twist. But having owned a Sebenza, I know those clip screws have some tension when screwing them in, so idk if you would do more damage to the Ti side or not.

Honestly, call CRK, and see if they can deal with it for you.. Maybe a good excuse to get the Spa treatment done to her.. :)

they will take care of you and prolly send you some goodies aswell. I stripped the screw of my mnandi, they refunded all shipping costs, sent me a free t shirt, a clip replacement screw and some crk lube. There customer service truly is the best in the business

I suspected I might have to give them a call. I tried getting a pair of pliers on the screw, but there isn't enough there for me to be able to grab. I guess I will be contacting CRK. this really put a damper on my day...I decided to tweak the pocket clip a bit before I started my day and this happened....oh well, at last I can still use the knife. I'll just carry my zt (heavy as it is) until I get this dealt with or get a sheath for it...

thanks for yalls help

Heather or Angela will take care of you.

Also, on the side note,

They are 100 times more comfortable without the pocketclip, especially in the small variety.

You could drill out the center but if you don't feel comfortable doing it, I would just send it in. Better to be without your knife for a week or two than forever.

Ahhh, that truly sucks!
Sorry for your woes, send it in and get it done right.
I have no doubt that you could probably take care of it but if by some chance you slip and rely F the scales up you'll be wishing you had let CRK take care of it.
Give the ZT a little pocket time and one day soon enjoy the pleasure of opening up a box that contains your like new CRK fresh from the factory, it beats the alternative.

well,

I emailed CRK and am waiting a reply. my ZT is getting a work out today...except I managed to strip a screw changing the pocket clip to an orientation like the Sebenza....ZT is sending me a replacement. I have been thinking about getting something engraved on it as well, so I may have that done at the same time. We will see, seems like a good excuse to me to have both done

Unfortunate it was firm going in. If it were easy to move while being tightened, all tension would be off when it broke. Try your fingernails anyway, you might be surprised as long as the screw didn't bottom out. Carefully Dremmeling a slot and using a screwdriver is another option that often works. Having said all that CRK will, no doubt, do right by you without the risk inherent in a DIY fix. Good luck.

I would think it best never to use the long end of the Allen wrench in tightening. Too much leverage. Without speaking of an inch/lb wrench; the torque on those ain't much.

OP, are you sure you should be an engineer? :(

ZT screw has been getting there for a while now, finally gave out this time. I would notice it pulling out of the knife after carrying it for a few days. I didn't put locktite on it the first time I changed it and that messed it up. Speaking of locktite, I need to go get some for the zt

Snapped screws are easy to get out, try snapped thread taps for some real fun ! :p

You can just drill it out as mentioned and there are even specific bits for removing "threaded obsticals", but if you're not sure about doing that then CRK will sort you out.

Make sure you use blue or purple, nothing stronger. :)

Boy ive got a bad experience with some red loctite on a pocket clip screw.....

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ou-do-NOT-put-red-loctite-on-any-small-screws

Holy crap

I've used red loctite before and had it pulled out...then again, it was as helicoil in a part jig on CNC lathe....

anyways, I'm probably gonna get some purple or blue within the next day or two.

I think I will be sending it in to CRK unless I can manage to get ahold of the screw with a pair of pliers or something. I'm getting the back scale above the lock bar engraved as well, would have got the front done, but it is gonna cost to much.

It is good to see that they do this for some people, I am not sure how common of an occurrence it is though? When I called for the replacement screws that take the new allen for one of my large Sebenza's CRK customer service was very cordial and helpful but I paid full price for the screws as well as the shipping. I expected to pay before I called although the screw issue was something beyond my control. This is not a complaint just my experience, it was a minimal amount of money and I was happy to have the right screws for the knife.

I lost 2 screws on my para 2 clip, completely my fault(dropped in the garage), called Spyderco, they sent me a replacement set and some blue loctite, I offered to pay, I was told it would be free of charge. I was happy with both experiences but I was a little happier with the second.

As stated in the posted link I have had really good luck with a soldering tip directly on the screw head or broken shaft, it breaks the loctite seal pretty easily in my experience, even red.

I got an email from CRK, they said to send it in if I couldn't get the screw out, and if I could get the screw out then let them know and they would send me a new screw. since I was planning on getting some engraving done, I am pretty sure that it is getting sent it
