Good idea! I have a never used inline traction splint device my dad gave me that would be perfect for this... Too bad I dot carry it everyday when I hike!
I did it for real 2 years ago. Broke both legs in a skydiving accident when I landed in a field. Knew when I felt the crunch while trying to roll over that they were broken, then confirmed it when my ankle was half way down my foot. Even though I knew I would be looked for training set in. I bundled up the parachute as a pillow (would have made an improvised sleeping blanket or tent for the night. I still had my Rat-1 folder and a lighter in my pocket. I was prepared to start a smudge in the field out of the duff layer if insects became a problem. I would have also started to burn fresh barley to create a signal fire (almost did as I was not found for approximately 1/2 hour. Had I seen a compound fracture I would have been able to make a bandage out of my shirt/parachute/pants (lucky I did not). Overall if shock did not take over I feel I would have been fine (although I had nothing for the pain so I would have been in rough shape- moving was not really an option as I would have really done extra damage- life threatening I would have moved but not a good idea with the damage I did).
Sorry but having gone through it once don't think I'll stop studying to try it out
Pics for proof (could somebody pm me with how to make the pics show in thread- I've never learned):
