Broke my Manix 2 cutting celery

I did a little experimenting and continued using the Manix, it still works the exact same except disengaging the lock feels funny, other than that, I have been cutting all sorts of material and the knife is still functioning the same
Im going to send it in to Spyderco today, hopefully this one can handle tough celery. Although after this occurence I think i'm going to switch over to the PM2

The thread title made me laugh out loud.:p Never to late to join the cult of the butterfly.:D They can chop down tree's fairly easily. Not sure about celery though.:o
And even though it's blasphemy for me i do like Spyderco's compression lock knives and getting my second delica.

Would have been easier to use an axe no? :p I guess if you have time to kill. :D

I broke the cage on my xl from a chest height fall onto ceramic tile. The lock still worked fine and I got spyderco to send me a new cage to repair mySelf, I wasn't feeling the shipping my knife to the USA for a repair that anyone can do. There were other drops before the one that broke it and it held up fine, and all good since I got the new, black, cage. I assume they don't use metal because that stem would probably end up bent and the spring wouldn't travel anymore, just a guess though.

I am sorry to hear about your Manix. I just got my first Manix 2 two weeks ago and I love the knife.
I am curious though, is the cage on your knife the clear cage or the black cage?

I have the clear-cage one with FFG S30V, the new black cages are supposedly 'improved' in terms of toughness, i'm not sure because I have not heard it confirmed by a Spyderco represenative. Although the only cages I've seen that broke were clear so maybe it is true

Once you get the knife back, never cut celery with it again. One of two things happened, the celery put lateral stress on the knife causing it to break( after all those strings are tough) or the knife is trying to tell you something to the effect that it is meant for outdoors and not kitchen duty. :)
Seriously though, hate to here it broke on you, it is very disappointing, don't let that be a deal breaker getting your next Spyderco. Even though I don't carry a Spyderco that often, I love the ones I have and probably need to pass them on, but not today.

That's a raw deal. But breakages do happen. Spyderco will rectify the situation in no time I bet. They're great.

And I'd stay away (far away) from those lame butterfly brand knives with pathetic QC and silly high prices. Especially that homely 275. I bet the blade coating is wearing off by the minute and the omega springs are about to give haha.

Spyderco for life !
