Broken bit in Bowie handle block

I would trim down a cheap set of needle nose pliers or get a set of forceps. You never know when you'll them again and I always use that as an excuse to buy new tools!

cut the block in half and make a multi piece handle. put a decorative spacer in where you made the cut.

You guys go to way too much trouble - A hammer and an anvil will remove the wood and then you just pull out the drill bit.

Well, it looks like I'm out a block and will have to cut it into scales. I bought 3 blocks off ebay for $6 each and 2 were kind of plain. This one however, was really nice and had good figure in it. So, I guess I will order another. Problem is, I need one 2" wide. They are hard to come by for less than $40. If I took Stacey's advice I could make some Ironwood Mycarta!

I can't get the bit out of the block, but I can offer you a cocobolo or redwood burl block at a discount!

Definitely do not go hammer time on that wood...lol

Like many before you, dremel out the bit

I was really hoping someone had a miracle for for this. I broke one of in a brass finger guard after hand fitting it.

If broken in a brass guard, try soaking in FC for an hour or so. Rinse well and it will likely come out with a few taps of a hammer on the other side.

Thanks for the tip. I will try next time. I cut it up into bolsters this morning. Sometimes it's best to just repurposed, bit I will try your suggestion next time.
