Broken blade tips

Dropped my ZT0620 on a tile floor. Took off the slightest of the tip. I slightly reprofiled it with a KO Worksharp. The only way you would know it was broken was if you compared it to a new one. Also somehow broke the tip on my Emerson Combat Karambit. I also ground it to be more like the newer style Combat Karambits with reinforced tips.

That’s true. It’s a fairly tame issue. With the right tools or craftsman, the knife can be brought back in service. Big chips or a blade broken in half would be more problematic.

Still not the end of the world. These 3 broken KA-BARS I use for whittling.

I only ever broke one tip. It was off a cheap butterfly knife I carried in the 80s. I was using it in a careless way. I never broke another tip after that.

I overshot trying to open a box of short loins and stabbed my 943 into a metal meat cooler wall (my depth perception isn't as good as it once was). I hit it hard enough to almost make me drop the knife. At first I didn't see any damage, which tells you how much actual damage there was and how tough s30v can be, but noticed later that the teeny-tiny tip was snapped off. It wasn't enough to bother much with, as it will sharpen out in due course, but even though most wouldn't notice it, it looks like a bloody tanto to me.

I really shouldn't use my 10X loupe anymore...

I had a Spyderco manix chip the tip off while scoring a piece of wood. It didn't loose a whole lot, probably 1/32 of the tip. My guess, is they over heated the tip when they sharpened it and weakened it. I resharpened it and haven't had another issue. Broke a few more tips while prying with kershaws and other blades...

I'm neither clumsy nor stupid. (Just ask the ex-wife)

I'm also not in the habit of screwing my knives.

I've never had this happen, though my dad did drop my TSF Beast on the concrete of the garage and chipped part of the edge.

Personally I've never broken a tip, so I'd say it's pretty rare unless you say... drop one on a tile floor.

Folks... maybe we can agree to remove the tile floors from our houses?
I'd feel better knowing you dropped your knife onto hardwood and it stuck tip down with a satisfying "thunk" and remained in one piece.

@Jiki's busted a tip or two off whittling wood, so maybe he can pop those pictures up.
I think I would rather deal with the expense of replacing my knife than my floor. 😂

Dropped an early Spyderco G2 Police on the pavement and lost about 1/4" of the blade tip.

I've broken a few tips over the years. All were from dropping them tip first onto concrete or tile.

It's a pretty easy fix since I have several variable speed grinders.

There are some tiny plastic trim clips that look like a Phillips screwdriver would remove them but after a few years, you have to get something pointy in there and pry them out. That did in the tip on my Spydie. It was such a small amount of force that I lost faith in the knife. I jammed my HK through a piece of plastic inner fender on a car and into something that broke the tip on it. An auto repair shop is a torture chamber for knives in general but I have a small screwdriver for prying small stuff and a bunch of prybars for big prying.
