Broken Commander?

Greetings, all! I just purchased a new Commander and it seems to have a problem. The cylindrical post (stop?) that goes between the liners has an uneven break right through the middle. The two halves pivot when the back of the blade touches them in the open position.

Is my knife broken?

This was a mail-order deal that had many problems and took several weeks to receive, so I'd appreciate your input before I deal with the shop.

This is without a doubt NOT good. Forget the dealer. Emmerson customer service is so good that I would call them and speak to Peggy. Tell her what happened and that you need your knife ASAP. They will have it fixed before you know it. They are very nice to deal with. (310) 542-3050

Thanks, Ben! I was afraid that was the case.

Emerson customer support was indeed very helpful and asked me to return the knife to them since it "would end up there anyway." However, in light of the extensive problems I've had with this dealer, I opted to return the knife directly to him for a refund. I placed an order with another dealer and should have a new (hopefully one-piece) Commander tomorrow.

Thanks again for your help! This board is a great wealth of knowledge.

Get your money back and get a MT LCC M/A. And save some $ as well. How MT can make a titanium bolstered, carbon fiber scaled, almost exact copy of the handmade LCC for under $130 defies logic. By the way, I had 2 Commanders and both had liner lock problems...........they would close with out warning. Both Commanders also had very low construction quality....G10 not flush with liners, etc. I love the design of the Commander, but really wish it was made by Microtech (or even Benchmade!).

I love living in Florida! Now my 2 carry knives are both MTs. The LCC and a HALOIII. That LCC makes every other production piece in the world seem like junk (with the exception of the Sebenza, but that is a $300+ knife!). Regardless of price in my opinion. My carry Stryker is now retired!

Maybe we could see a MT Emerson collaboration. With what MT did with the Lightfoot design who knows what marvels they could do with an Emerson design! Imagine a high quality production Commander with Ti Bolsters and carbon fiber scales for less $ than the current Commander.......it is possible!

I know that Emerson has had some quality issues but that does not change the fact that the Commander is far superior in design to the MT LCC insofar as a combat weapon is concerned. NOTHING opens as fast as a Commander... If you need a knife for (God help you) self defense then a Commander is a better bet.

I am sure that Emerson will get its act together, especially with competition like MT.
