Broken drill bit

I needed a bit to drill some hardened steel with. After some research I went with the bit below. 2 seconds in to drilling it the tip broke off. Did I get the wrong bit or was this just defective? I was attempting to drill some stainless sheet metal(.080"). I'm not sure if it was professionally heat treated or just work hardened. It came off the face of an industrial press. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00462RR9A/ref=biss_dp_t_asn

That's a good drill bit, it wasn't defective

Solid carbide tools are hard enough to cut hard material, but brittle.

Your setup wasn't strong enough, or well clamped enough, or the drill press had some wobble.

If you're trying to make a knife, start with annealed steel that you know will make a good knife.

Thanks for the reply. I'm building a ht oven and already have the structure built. I was trying to drill by hand so that's probably my problem. I will try to spot anneal it and drill it with a regular bit.
