Hello,

I've been researching the web regarding BK9's breaking. i know every company can slip lemons once in a while and based on my research, BK9's that were stamped are the only ones i found that had some failures. now my question is has there anyone badly chipped or broken a a BK9 with a lasered logo? BTW can anyone post a BK9 picture with TKC scales?

thanks

It seems that most 9's that break are the Camillus models, that were also stamped. Perhaps I'm wrong.

On topic: I've only seen the Camillius era BKs break, except for one Ka-Bar BK2 that some moron beat on with an axe. Most (Camillius era) BK9s break when batoning, IIRC.

I think the consensus was that the stamped Camillus BK9's were breaking primarily due to crack propagation from micro-fractures that result from the stamping process, combined with a lesser heat treatment than Ka-Bar's. I have yet to see anything about the recent BK9's breaking, but I would love to see a destruction test if someone cares to try.

Another shot with some perspective. I'm a big guy - 6'2", 275 lbs, and have hands (along with other stuff) to match. Not as big as some on the forum, but big enough.

ahhh I see the old saying is true big feet big hands equals big shoes and big gloves!!

speaking of hand size, i got skinny lil' fingers (i know what you're thinking. mind your business.). anyway, the handle on my bk3 is just about perfect size. what do you big fellers think about them?

as for the stamped 9s breaking, i can picture stamping leaving sharper edges than etching. maybe? sharp corners concentrate stresses?

Yes, and stamping IS stress too. It takes quite a lot of concentrated pressure to push that die so far into the steel.
