Broken leek tip?

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum, and this is my first thread :). I recently purchased a 1660ST partially serrated leek and I love it so much that I decided to collect kershaw knives. I picked up a smoked blue leek, and I have a shallot and skyline on the way. The problem is, I compared the new blue leek to the stainless vversion, and immediately noticed that tip was smaller and more dull than the blue version. The tip stops where the primary grind and secondary edge meet, whereas the blue leek's secondary edge continues on a bit and makes a sharper tip. I have barely used the knife, and have only used it for cutting paper and cutting through tape on packages (like on my second leek) so I don't think I could have broken the tip off. Would kershaw replace the blade under warranty?

They'd probably just sharpen it back on. I blunted my Blur tip, and they fixed it. Though my blade is shorter, but whatever. As long as it's not a blem, your covered.

Ack! Sorry, I am trying to get a picture, but the difference is so minute, it isn't showing up lol. The leek has such a pinpoint sharp tip, it's hard to actually distinguish from the other knife without touching it :/. It's like the very end of it is rounded where the other knife is pointer. This is the best picture I could get with my phone

The bottom knife is the one I was talking about. Do you see how nice and sharp the tip is on the knife above? Am I being fussy? I must confess that I am pretty ocd about stuff...

I guess I see what you are saying. Unfortunately I think you would just have to sharpen it to get it pointy again. It looks so minute that I would not even worry about it personally, and I'm picky!

Yeah, it looks like it's just a variation of the sharpening job. Some care and sharpening expertise would create a needle-point, but in terms of practical performance, I doubt you're going to notice much of a difference. It's certainly not broken, just different in how the terminating bevel is to the tip.

If you could also post a picture of the two Leeks side-by-side, in a full frame, we could see the difference in length.

I was sharpening one of my leeks and accidentally rolled the tip on the stone. If you run the back of the tip along the stone you'll get your needle tip back very quickly. I'd only do that to a user knife though. Leeks are cool I have 9 of them, hehe.

My first kershaw was. Leek and I was very rough on it and would constantly break off like 1/16 in of the tip off bit one good thing about sandvik is its easy to fix

This is not an official Tip, but after sharpening a sharp point like the Leek, drag the spine of the blade tip over your stone one or two passes.

This works for any shape of blade.

Thanks guys! I think when I get home from work I will use my ceramic rod and see if I can gently get it a little pointier. I have the shallot coming because it seems that the tip might be a little more robust. Any experience with this knife?

Yeah man, a little larger of a knife but it is an awesome one! It should be able to handle a bit more abuse than the leek! Probably one of my favorite user kershaws.

Awesome! I ordered it in tungsten dlc, and I am pretty excited about it! I've never had a knife with the recurve like that, so it will be fun to mess with. I think I am hooked on knives again.....

You should get a CF154 Blur while you're at it. :D It's the greatest knife ever, right above the TiLT.

Ohhhhhh my wife is already a little irritated by my renewed hobby lol. I keep flicking the leek open over and over while I sit on the couch. The flipper is too much fun! I don't like the sandpaper like substance on the blur to be honest with you. For grip, I'm a fan of rubber inserts original slots in the metal, or even just a good shape. Why in the world is the kershaw echelon so expensive? I want to get one, but I feel like it is a little over priced...

Not sure if you are refering to the old sand paper skate tape insert blurs or the newer trac-tec rubberized ones. And you can get a cf154 like stick was saying because it has carbon fiber inserts where the trac-tec would normaly be. There are also the newer spider web blurs that have no insert and are solid aluminum with a spider web motif on them. All of those are limited pieces, so if you want one now is the time to get one before they disappear!

^As my friend and colleague Justin just said, the CF Blur has CF inserts, and the whole knife is quite smooth. I love it, because it makes for very easy removal from the pocket and ease putting it back. It doesn't damage material, and the shape of the handle just melts into my hand. The standard and S30V blurs have the rubberized Trac-Tec inserts, they've long since done away with the skateboard grip tape like material. Where'd you last see a Blur? I'm curious, as it's been some number of years since the old grips were made.

To conclude, the CF154 Blur is perfect, like LeeLoo Dallas (multipass). It's my fifth element.

Yeah the only blurs I've seen in person are the older ones. I would love a green one with cf inserts, but it's a bit out of my price range atm. I've got a two month old baby boy that about to start daycare, so there goes some of our hard earned cheddar lol. I actually named our son after the fifth element by the way! I figured I will slowly start collecting some edc knives, and eventually give them to my boy when he's old enough.
